I have my fathers mini mac 30 which he purchased new in the early 1970's. It has been a great saw but recently has started having some issues. It cranks fine but begins to bog once it is hot. Also, it will not crank if it is hot; it must completely cool before it will restart. So far I have: cleaned the air filter cleaned carbon buildup from muffler cleaned black goo from inside fuel cap added new gas any suggestions to get the old saw running better would be appreciated. thx! |

What do you mean, that it won't crank. Does it turn over, when you pull on the starter rope, or does it lock up, and you can't pull the starter rope out at all? If this is happening, by the sounds of it, it has possibly been straight gassed, or had not enough oil mixed in with the gas, at one point in time. Let us know, what else the chain saw is doing, and we might be able to help you figure what is happening. Take care. Bruce.

Thanks for the reply Bruce! The saw cranks great but once it gets warmed up it wants to bog down a little; most of the time I am able to keep it running. If the saw is hot it will not crank and run. The starter will pull out, the saw will hit a couple licks then bog and die. This continues over and over until I just let it completely cool, at which time it will crank right up. I am positive my dad never used straight gas in it, nor have I. My pre-mix is 40:1; same mix I run in an equally aged McCulloch weed eater that runs like a champ. thanks for your help |

My dad has a little top handle mac he bought new back when ![]() It has had basically the same problem since new. You get one good tank out of it and when she gets hot it vapor locks. Never found a fix for it besides grab another saw and let that mac cool down. POS IMO so I gave him 2 more smaller saws for trim duty. |

This mini mac has been a good saw for 30+ years until last Oct. when it decided to start this mess. | |
