Default Master control lever on 1127 series saws

OK, so this thread is going to confirm I'm an idiot, but what the heck

Is it just me or does this control switch on my ms310 stihl seem a bit hokey? It seems very hard to get it from the cold start to the warm start position.
At one point the shaft it's on popped right out of it's hinge mount (yeah I was pushing too hard in frustration).
Should I be trying to bend the metal bit so it provides less resistance or is there something I'm doing wrong?

And to pre-empt the inevitable rhetoric from da Eksta , yeah, I know you think the 310 is crap, but it's all relative and apart from this switch I'm loving my new baby and it purring it's way through logs my last saw used to choke on.

I've bent the metal slider bit - the bit that connects/shorts the electrical circuit and kills the engine - so that it slides better and now the control lever operation is much smoother.

Radius the edge on the control lever where it goes from full choke to fast idle. The edge is very sharp and the contact spring hangs on the edge. Smooth as butter after a little work with 600 wet dry and a dab of grease.

Thanks. Since bending it out to take a little tension off so it slides over that point easier, it's been sweet, but I think I like your solution best and will try that if it plays up again.

i tried to bend the metal on a ms390 once because you would hafto push hard enough on the switch that it would pop out and then the saw goes wot with no way to shut it off but i guess i bent it too far and it busted in half. so u might be easy on it when u tweak it. tonight my 066 wouldent shut off lol. switch got jammed and so here i am with a full tank of gas and nothing to cut and my de comp button wouldent kill it. so i figured what the heck i kno im gonna get shocked if i pull the plug wire so i used a glove to do it lol. it worked. luckly it wasnt stuck at wot. that would be bad. once when i was working on an old saw that had been ran over(no carb/kill switch just open intake) i had poured some premix down in the crank case and was rolling it over and the thing started up at well over wot for about 10 seconds lol lol. needless to say i had to go change my pants after that one lol.chewed the chain scabbard literally in half. lol
