Default J red carb./gas question

Hi all, I?m new here and wanted to check the validity of the problem I had with my Jred Cs2159 c. I bought it 2 years ago and have used it for about 80 hrs before it started to run like crap? so I brought it in to the dealer I got it from for a tune up. The dealer adjusted the carb. And gave it back to me and it just didn?t seem to run like she used to ?. So after a few weeks I sent it back to him and this time he said I need to stop running cheap gas in it ?. He says I need to run the highest octane I can get and only use gas that is less than 30 days old and if it has been mixed with 2 stroke oil it is then only good for 14 days. He put a new carb. on her and she seems to run good so far. I have now started to run both of my saws out of gas completely so they are stored with no gas in the tank and will always have fresh gas when I go out next.
This is a PIA for me b/c I don?t cut every day or every week ? I have had my 023 for 13 yrs and never had a problem like this. Could you guys toss me a line on this?

Thanks in advance for all the feed back?.

P.S. I am on all the forum links on WesSpur and all the info you guys are able to give is great?. 

Welcome on the forum mate!!

Well if you mix fuels yourself the engine can suffer abit. All I use is this:

STIHL Power tools

When I call my dealer for a new saw, he's used to the fact that he must fill it with motomix instead of the fuel they mix themselves (they must deliver the saw in ready to use condition = stihl policy) . In the beginning he filled it with wathever crap they were using to get it running for a few minutes, and then I poured it out again and filled it with motomix.
We buy it in barrels of 200 liters. Of course that's too much for you, but it'll hold at least 3 years and you don't have to mix it. It isn't cheap though, but normally it would cost less where you are then here.
It comes in quantities of 1 liter bottles, 5 liters, 25 liters, 60 liters, and 200 liters.

Gotta tune your carb a bit so that it runs good, but hell... I may drop dead here this minute if one of my 38 stihl machines malfunctioned EVER, and we use at least three of them every day. I swear by it. Your saw will perform much better, engine will last longer (and so machine lasts longer),the burn in the cylinder is WAY CLEANER and therefore the piston and cyl will stay clean, fumes are nihil... You'll smell it at first but that goes away after a while. And it's better for the environment... You will not get tired and suffer from headaches when standing in fumes coming from the exhaust all day... Tons of pro's, only contra is pricing.
When buying this in barrels you can get a good price though. If you add it all up, I can guarantee it's even cheaper then fuel mixed by yourself.
AND CLEAN YOUR AIRFILTER REGULARLY(EVERY WEEK AT THE LEAST on regular use). DON'T WAIT UNTILL THE FILTER AND CARB IS CLOGGED WITH SAWDUST. Good maintenance WILL save you money, effort, and time... and therefore again money...

I agree with most of Quercus' statements. You could just add fuel stabalizer. It can be purchased at most gas stations and large hardware suppliers.

Maintenanace is the key, make sure the saw is cleaned prior to being put away for extended periods.

I have used motormix too. It's good for your machines. I have use it two years long. But the last half year was very bad. When I use motormix a couple of hours I get a headache of it. This is verry personal. Now I use aspen (the smell is much better in my opinion) and also good for chainsaws and that kind of stuff.

Yeah, mate, just pour it into the saw... Nothing needs to be added...

Aspen fuel is a very good fuel too, but didn't you notice that it leaves a lot of grease in the carb? Aspen is way greasier then motomix, but still it is a very good fuel brand.Somewhat cheaper then motomix too... but we get motomix cheaper then aspen, so I think it's a personal thing.

Olyman .... he was able to put the carb on under warrenty so it didn't set me back any ..... do you know if we can get Motomix here in the States??? I had bought a 6 pack of Jred oil and only mix up 1 gallon at a time. My problem is I don't cut all the time and like to have gas on hand is I need the saws ready to go a a minuts notice .... for any unexpected weather damage.

Am I going in the right direction by running the saw empty after each use ??? I know the gas has a lot of ethenol in it now and that absorbs alot of water..... but is it true that the oil in the fuel breaks down after 14 days ???

i dont ever run mine empty--but in the winter--i set them in the basement--doesnt rot the bottom of the saw---and you dont have the temp swings--which is what helps "gum" fuel-----------dont know about motomix--i still have 5 gal of 2 cycle from when i used to sell chainsaws!! still smells good----this from a local oil co----

just out of curiousity are you mixing the fuel to te manufactuers specs?
when i got my husky 51 i assumed all huskys ran 40 to 1 because of my 141.i asked my dealer and he said the 51 runs 50 to 1.I ran it at 50 to 1 and haven't had a problem yet.yeah run the best octane fuel available because the oil breaks down the octane rating.if you run 93 after its mixed it would be about 80 octane rating.use stabil if you leave gas in your garage to.

Any of you guys notice difference between running regular unleaded and high octane???

I realise they should run better/cleaner but I tried it once and it gummed up the saw and so tossed the fuel.

I was doing a 1:50 mix with some knock off oil and 87 octain mix .... but after that problem I bought the jred oil and 93 octain.... I have not needed to run the saw in a few weeks. But the tank is empty now b/c knew it would be a month or so before I would be using either saw.

How long is the mix good for in a air tight container .... I know it will depend on the temp change it sees.

i've used mix oil that was 3 years old and it didn't make any difference.the oil doesn't go bad unless water gets in it.mixed fuel if you put sta-bil in it is good for a year.

Thats what I thought.... and had no problem with my 023 in doing so... but Jred told me I need ti only use mix that is 14 days old and gas that is no more that 30 days... and should be 95 but 93 would work.

That was the reason I made this post.... just to get feedback

Thank you every one!!!!
