This is a saw built origionally built by Harry Boedecker, I redesigned the chassis fork Mike Koers. Moved the rear handle back 2 inches and designed a new top handle, fuel tank, chainguard, etc. The saw was much better balanced and the handling was improved. Before: ![]() ![]() After: ![]() |

Me in the early days, twice as slow, twice as heavy, and I didn't win much, but I always had fun. ![]() |

My first hot saw. 105 pounds. Boat anchor doesn't quite explain it, more like a ship anchor. |

Nice pics, and welcome. ![]() Obviously the "pipe" makes a big difference and costs a lot to make/buy. That whole expansion chamber business, what's that all about and why does it work or have to be there? Obviously it's a craft to get them perfect, and those that do charge a fortune.

I could go on about pipe theory for a month, then someone else could argue my theory with his for another month. Jennings book of 2 stroke performance is a great start for building pipes and learning theory. I found this video where a guy explains the operation of an expansion pipe, not bad and its about 7 min. long. I like starting with FMF and ProCircut pipes for the bikesaws, or I will just hammer them out of sheet metal. Then I need to modify them to both fit the application and run in the corrected powerband for a saw. If you just transfer all of the dimensions the bike uses you have way more torque than you would ever need, and not much added to the top where a saw likes to run. |

Hey Good to see another familiar face here, I am going to have a go at building a bike saw sometime. I will be sure to pick your brains for info when that time comes around. |

Since watching that video I have been thinking how hopeless a standard shelf muffler must be. Now RPM wise, saws could rev till they blow yes/no? Like how many rpm can they take? And what can be done about it?

The rpm limit depends on how much exhaust duration you can get while keeping as much compression needed to fire. The true limit is where the motor mechanically fails, usually the crankshaft. There have been small 2 strokes built nearing 30,000 rpm. Maximum achieved RPM is not always the best route, most of the bikes are only running 10,000 to 11,000 in the wood so thats where I like to tune my pipes. | |
