That's $870.26 Australian.

Throw in a few bucks for Paypal fees and Therrins troubles and you'll still be well in front of the local dealers here, going price for a 200T here is $1500.

That's pretty good!

I wonder if the local dealers will price match that!!!

Hey Therrin,
I think I have narowed it down to one saw the 361 I think that will be the best all rounder for what I want right now. Once I start on the bigger stuff and harder timbers then I will look into a 66.

I have had a couple of prices here some not bad, but the way they work down prices is by throwing in extras like chains and so forth.

So was wondering what you can get them over there at, I have looked at a couple USA suppliers and they have them listed online at around $600 US (not sure how corect those figures are though) with 20 inch ES bar, though I am not sure on width as apparently they come in varying widths and that makes quite a difference with use. If you would rather me pm ya let me know.

I am looking to purchase week after next.

mate,

(Note: saws are shipped WIHOUT BARS, this allows for a cheaper initial purchase price, smaller shipping size & weight, and the ability to put "chainsaw parts" on the package; since without the bar, it isnt a "complete" chainsaw. Shipping chainsaw parts is a breeze with customs, but they arent usually happy about entire new chainsaws being shipped in)

Nebula, just be aware that some dealers in drier areas have been steering pro customers away from the 361 thanks to filtration issues.
Probably not a concern where you are, but inland cutting dry Red Gum the filtration isn't as good as the 441 and up.

From another forum
Quote:
I meet a Stihl dealer and had a great chat to him. He warned me of the 361 because of problems over here (Australia) with the fine dust. He said the air cleanners do not seal correctly. I gave him the 'your bull####ing me look' and he said come with me. He took a 361 and a 460 from his showroom floor a pointed out were the dust gets past a 361's air cleanner. Then he showed me the air cleanner on a 460 and they are completely different. He has had relatively low use 361's come back with problems caused by the air cleanners and never had any problems with the 460 setup.

Cheers Therrin for the quick price mate. Il pm ya and let ya know.

That is interesting Rick about the 361 one though obviously gum is probably the most common timber I will be cutting along with pine. It is wettter up here, though last 3 months or so havn't had a drop of rain people are getting concerned.
Just few days ago it reached 36degrees and where still in winter, keeps going that way gonna be a shocking summer.

Might have to quickly rethink my chainsaw situation, talk about put a spanner in the works rick lol

Warranty?

I bought a couple of saws from the US when the dollar was something like 97c.
I didn't look into the warranty side of things with the savings had and having no issues with the saws was wondering.

Has anybody had any warranty issues?

Nebula, I thought if it didn't rain by three days you were in drought

I have a BIL who is a fencing contractor near Federal and SIL who has macadamias and limes at Newrybar and was talking to her the other day when she told me what the temp had been the day before

Honestly guys, ya playing with fire trying to warranty those saws if they were acquired in the USA and sent out here, don't spoil a good thing.... meaning they aint dumb and do a serial number search and discover saws bought USA and handed in for warranty in Australia days later.

I have never had an issue with a saw, I aint some dumb ass either putting straight gas in without 2 stroke or leaning them out to hell or modding mufflers and not adjusting carby etc. If ya a non mechanical type or dumb, buy local for the help.

Al, no chance of warranty if bought outside Oz, it's usually a pretty standard disclaimer and anyway, after what you've done to yours

Your on the money Rick usually we have no rain for a few days and people start panicking where in drought, this is just after you know 4 months of solid rain, they crack me up

I thought about warranty loss if purchased in the USA, though I factor that into the price here (baring in mind STIHL commercial warranty isn't exactly great) and if the price still comes out $300 or so more this end than that in the USA with shipping and a bottle of their favourite drop for the kind service they are offering to purchase us these cheaper saws then I know where I'm going.

Yeah.
Just wondered as to others thoughts, or had tried to chase up warranty.
I paid $1100 AUD to my door for my 395XP with 28" bar & chain so was a no brainer.

Yah, certain Stihl saws here are going up in price. Anual inflation in a deflationary era??? I cannot see them selling many saws lately. Probably all homeowner saws.

Just shipped out another 200T to AUS.

Here's the *actual* info, as opposed to what I had estimated....

Total saw price = $649.95 US (that part was right)

Total shipping price = $76.80
(actual shipping weight 10lb 6oz) (that part I got slightly off, but I also sent the complete toolkit, book, etc that comes with the saw, and packaged it up pretty good as well)

Total actual cost = $726.75

Hopefully my happy saw recieving person will post up here when it shows up to add to my credibility. We didnt use paypal, used a Western Union money order this time around and that part of it worked fine.

Just bought a new 660 today.

Right here in good ol Austral-i-a.

$1600 plus $160 GST = $1760.

Claim back the GST = $1600

Claim back $800 tax credit through the government 50% investment allowance = $800

Claim the Stihl $200 cash back promo offer = $600

So there you go... $600 for a brand new MS660

Full warranty, dealer just around the corner from my shop.
Pick it up in person, no wondering if it will make through the mail from the other side of the world. No customs dramas.

No beer money for Therrin

I believe that if you purchase from Therrin the same tax deals apply. Also you can bundle items together to get over that $1000 minimum qualifying limit, so if 1 saw doesn't exceed $1000 Australian bundle something else into it like chains etc.

You still claim depreciation of the full value over time too but get the 50% as a lump sum reduction on your tax.

Now Trevs sums are a little wrong, let me explain.

Where he says he claims the $800 he is claiming it as a tax deduction, likely at the company rate of 30%. So in effect he saves only $240 being the reduced amount of tax he has to pay.

So the saw really cost him $600 + $560 = $1160 .... you'll have to do these sums for a level 5 unit.

And I really hate to point this out, but I'm not making any money off you guys. If you'll notice the math from my last transaction, I came out $4 on top. Which, incidentally, didnt pay for the gas I used doing the transaction. But I'm not complaining. It's just dont go thinking that I'm somehow getting rich off these deals.

I just think its ludicrous what you guys are paying over there and I'm trying to help out.

$4 wouldnt even buy me enough beer to get a buzz on.

A ms192 to Greece....

MS192 = $325 (tax included)

Shipping from here to Greece = $78

Total price = $403 US

(as mentioned before, thats the straight across price, which doesnt cover my fuel or anything else. Something closer to $450 would be nice to cover my fuel and time, and if you think about it, thats still not asking for much.)

Default Re: *I ship saws to Australia* (and elsewhere)

You sure???

I get that a purchase from overseas can still qualify for the 50% thing, as can bundling like items. Bear in mind that if you bundle NEW items to get over $1000 INC POSTAGE you will be liable for GST & import duty. Whether or not they are "saw parts" because you are missing a bar is irrelevant.

You may be lucky & sneak one by them, but if not you will be up for a quick lesson in importing/customs documentation or will need to engage a customs broker to clear it for you. Add about $400 to your $1000 if that happens.

If you try to get around that by calling them 2nd hand it doesnt make a difference, but then you still want to put the hand out for the 50% deduction because they're new. Can't have the cake & eat it.

So they have to be NEW. Can Therrin provide an invoice for a brand new stihl??? I'll just take a guess that Therrin is not a Stihl Dealership selling new saws. More likely buying at retail or slightly better from a stihl dealer. So when we buy off him its 2nd hand. Unless he is providing end buyers details to the dealer for the invoice at the time of purchase maybe???

As for the 50% thing, as i understand, but am no accountant, that 50% of the purchase price is a tax credit.

Yes it is a credit on tax you would have to pay, if infact you do have a tax liability to pay. It is not a refund. Eg. if your business ran at a loss and had no company tax to pay the $800 would have no effect & you've paid $1600 for a saw that year. But it does carry forward, so say next year you made a handsome profit & when all is said & done you owed the gov $1000 dollars company tax you would have credit for $800 leaving your tax liability at $200.

Without that tax credit, you owe them $1000. My math says $800 stays in my companys pocket with the credit or $1000 doesnt without it.

$800 is $800 is it not?

The way i see it is if it is money you are going to have to pay anyway and you can afford the equipment & have use for it you might as well accrue some deductions for the future rather than have to hand them that amount of money down the track.

Do i get a pass now sir?

I send the..whats it called... the "proof of waranty" or whatever with the saw. the stihl slip that has the serial number written on it. I also ship the book, the toolkit, and the reciept.

And yes, I purchase from a dealer. I've done this before Trev... on the Customs manifest I put "chainsaw parts" or simply "machine parts" (not complete machine).

It's not a "used" saw coming from me. I put the approximate value, minus the bar/chain on the customs manifest. But the lady at the post office tags it as a "gift".

Like I mentioned, the last saw I shipped out, he saved $700 or so, I lost $25 in gas money.
Anyone who's NOT purchasing it as a business expense cant even claim it on their taxes can they?
