I own a Husqvarna 345e (manufactured 062202003) purchased 27/04/07. For me collecting personal firewood every couple of weeks - it's brilliant! Unfortunately I now have to make serious choices - repair or replace. Still cuts beautifully -powerful motor. But it has developed an oil leak - the bar oil gathers in the starter/flywheel area, around the muffler(making it smoky/smelly) and throughout the machine. Luckily the bar/chain is still receiving 80%+ oil. After investigating I have noticed the plastic case underneath the saw & in front of the 4 motor retain bolts - some plastic bubbles/holes. I believe an indication of overheating - possibly I made a mistake with my fuel mix (EVIL E10 petrol poison)and or too little 2st oil(usual my mix is high performance stihl/husky oil at 50:1 and BP ultimate petrol). My investigation/strip down and clean lead to 2 stupid(me) errors -(tighten all nuts/bolts etc) -1 lost muffler retainer/bolt ; loose ignition coil = damaged flywheel (5 fins). Both detected after 2 cuts but dame done - my stupidity rules! Anyway now I must decide if it is economically viable to repair - particular the replacement of the plastic case (oil tank and motor housing). The later repairs I know will not be that expensive. Due to my local dealership(lovely people but) -long delays in repairs/service in past ( 17 days for stop switch, 10 days for 3 chains 1 was wrong gauge(63 not 50)(and not replaced as it was 8 months before I discovered mistake-had receipt ,box and not used) , oil plate/bar interface 19 days, air filter 25 days) - I will be taking it to another Husky dealer up to 50 minutes away either Richlands or Boonah(good rep, product knowledge & helpful). I live in Ipswich area SEQld. Opions etc would be very helpful! Thank You! |

Ken, I hate to say this but you may want to consider replacing the saw. I own a newer 445 and this saw acts like it is on steroids. If you are able to locate the leak then lightly sand the surface and use some type of sealant then you may save yourself some $$$.Best of luck, Ken
