i suggest running the manufacteres oil, ran bike oil in one of my saws and it burnt up so i had to rebuild it.As for the 61,if it just needs a piston and rings,go for it.

Only use oil designed for air cooled engines, for small two strokes.

DO NOT USE MARINE OIL AS THIS OIL IS DESIGNED FOR WATER COOLED ENGINES

It was more of a general warning, yes I have done it costed me a top end on one of my saws.. the old thumper Harley's are air cooled but their oil is 50wt oil viscosity comes into play with small engines...oils aint oils sol

question? how does a 20 wt become a 50 wt when used???

yeah I know, 4stroke air cooled was only a referance.

Castrol TTS

* Motor Cycle 2 stroke Synthetic engine oil SAE 20
* High performance air or water cooled Japanese and Euro motor cycles
* Low smoke
* Provides max. and sustained engine protection during open throttle operation
* Suitable for competition on and off road applications

Castrol-tts engine oil

The decision is yours

Thats right, The petrol oil mix lubricate all internal parts just as the piston acts as the inlet and exhaust valve.

2 strove motorcycle engines arnt really that different from a chainsaw,2 units in the one housing, motor and gearbox, conected with a primary drive and clutch etc.Although bike 2 stroke motors do have differnt types of "induction systems"ie piston port, reed valve, crank case and rotary disc.
Anyway Ill go with the TTS and keep posted if any problems arise.Which I wouldnt think so as Ive always used it in all my air cooled MX bikes with not a sighn of any problems.
Cheers for all the helpfull advise.

I have just bought a Husky 440e and this is the info for that saw, i dont think it makes too much difference with the 450 as their mix ratios were no different and only changed for 60cc or greater.

According to Husqvarna a 40:1 mix is with Husky oils only, and other brand and they recommend a 25:1 mix. Over here is Australia if you want to keep your 2 year warranty you are supposed to run 40:1 with Husky oil, but as the dealer said "How would I know what mix you run"

I use a good hi octane fuel (98 rating) with my fuel and for the moment I am using the husky with the 40:1 mix using Husky oil as they gave me 4 litres of it with the saw. So figured I will follow what they recommend for now.

I have heard (dont know how true this is) that with all the EPA stuff on these new saws they can be a little picky about tune and mix's..someone will know more about this than me though
