Default how many revs?

I have used an 038 mag with 25" for firewood (West Oz hardwood) for long time.

It's my dad's saw, it's a great old girl and we've had around 30 years of perfectly reliable service on the dairy farm and later vineyards, interspersed with plenty wood gettin.

To my question,

When I'm cutting Jarrah (reasonably hard, but not too tough)I let the saw do the work with minimal pressure..... but....... how far should I go with the revs. Are these saws designed to operate best at WOT, or is it o.k to let it find its sweet mid range nice spot and tonk away?

I cut with a few mates with 40ish cc saws and they HAVE to go full noise on these trees, whereas I can, by comparison, cut more relaxedly.... is what I am doing o.k, or could I be putting undue stress on things
by lugging.

Cheers, Craig.

ps, what is a cord??

It depends what your carb mixture adjustment is set at. L= 1 TURN, H= 3/4-1 TURN. Yes the 038 can handle WOT just don't over do it.
A cord is a imperial volume measurement of wood.
A 1 cord pile is 8 feet long X 4 feet high X 4 feet wide = 128 cubic feet.

Sorry mate, I get a bit lazy with my words.
West Oz certainly is in Australia, it is, in fact, the single best place in all of Australia, namely, Western Australia, and even more impressive, the South West of Western Australia.

I wouldn't get any argument from any other Aussies out there would I??

Cheers, Craig.

I am not sure if I understand what the question is about - but if it is about throttle position while cutting wood, you should generally cut at full throttle. If you don't, you risk running lean, as there are no mid-speed jet in the carb.

As with any rule there are exceptions - "feathering" the thottle for a few secons at the time hardly does any harm.
