Gday, i've been reading a couple of threads about hedge trimmers and pole saws and have noticed a few guys using their polesaw with a hedge trimmer attachment for doing larger hedges. My question relates specifically to stihl HT75, HT101 & HT131 pole saws. Where do you get the trimmer head from? Is it the same one that fits onto a stihl combi? Is it easy to stick onto the polesaw? Does it just fit onto the shaft and bolt straight up? Would you recommend doing this or is it better to spend the extra and just get a combi? Thanks for your help. |

I got a hedge trimmer attachment for my ht100 when I goat the saw. Yes, it's easy to swap with the saw. To take off the saw you have 4 T27 bolts to loosen and the install the trimmer you only have 2 T27 bolts to tighten. I believe that the Stihl Kombi unit will work with the pole part removed from the trimmer and then it should just attach to the pole on the saw's powerhead. You will have to use a Stihl trimer though. A dealer shouild be able to show you. I've used mine for 5 years and its been great.

As sawfun says, you can just bolt the hedge trimmer attachment onto your Stihl polesaw, but unless you have a very strong back, I would suggest buying a combi tool instead. The weight difference between a combi tool & a polesaw is HUGE if you're using it for any length of time. I have a HT75 & occasionally bolt the hedge trimmer onto it for extra reach over the combi tool, but my lower back, shoulders & neck let me know all about it the next day if I do it for too long! Also; be wary if your polesaw is under warranty! Stihl do not recommend using the hedge trimmer on the polesaw, even though I've found it works fine. Another also; don't let the drive shaft fall out of the tube when your changing from chainsaw to hedge trimmer, even a small amount! If you have any bend in your polesaw, you'll never get the drive shaft back in without pulling the whole shaft assembly apart! Cheers, Kevin |

Thanks for the info. I guess the weight thing is the main consideration, it's hard enough using the polesaw at full extension for any length of time but then add a trimmer head on it and you would get over it pretty quick. |

The stihl dealer I spoke to today says the hedger attachment can be used on a dedicated pole saw fine...... however if used at extension and becomes jammed then drive shaft can warp. I found it a tough choice on whether to get a combi tool or a dedicated pole saw plus hedger attachment, ended up going the ht131 get it next week |

The cheapest way is buy the hedger attachment for the combi unit pull the short shaft off and put it on a Ht75-HT100-HT131
