Unhappy Grandpa passed away and left a SKIL 1690 and 1680 and Titan chainsaws?

I need help!! I recently inherited a skil 1690 with a 34" bar and chain as well as a "titan" chainsaw with a 38" bar and a skill 1980 with no bar or chain. I know the family had a logging company YEARS ago here in Idaho, and as such these two beauts have been stored away for many years as well. Ebay seems to be the only way to sell them but they have no other ones like these, from what I understand there have only been TWO 1690's for sale on ebay in the past 12 years! Point being, I have no idea what they are worth, but I'm betting a pretty penny, and have been tasked with selling his equipment to help with his medical/funeral costs so these would be a great help. Any bit of information helps and will be tremendously appreciated.

Those are some excellent tips I will get on that first thing in the morning! Thanks! Before I can put them on classifieds I need a good starting point for negotiations... I made a tumblr account and put some pics up on it niftthrift.tumblr.com, but it was with my iphone and in dim light so they're sorta crappy but I'll be sure to take better ones in the morning. It'll be a good chance to test out my new hd camcorder I got for xmas as well

Please list them here too as I have no idea WTF these saws are.

Sad to hear of the loved ones passing, God bless.

First do not keep pulling on the recoil like that, you could ruin the starter system. They need oil! The pall arms are not extending from sitting to long. Before you even attempt to turn these saws over remove the spark plug a use some two stroke oil in the cylinder and let it in there for a few days, you could ruin a saw that could have suck piston or ring. Third remove the bars and chains off the saws and soak in some oil. I would not even turn them over other then to verify they move. Can you remove the muffler easily? If yes get some pictures of the slug and jug, this could be a money shot, the cleaner the slug and jug the better money.

Again thanks for the tips, I know nothing about logging or chainsaws and that is definitely good to know. On the 1690 there is no recoil it just stops, and won't rotate again until slight slack is provided and I pull again and it goes a little bit further then stops, it doesn't try to jerk it back into the case. Nevertheless I should have known better than to try and pull and wait until someone more qualified like you could give me pointers! I will try and remove the mufflers and send pics of what is inside, thanks again!

I would like to see a good all around the saw video before you do any thing drastic. The recoil is stick from lack of oil on the palls. Be care full when removing parts, oil screws because a broken screw will lose you money. If it will not work stop and get a real good look at the parts. Those recoils can and will break if not treated right, and they are really impossible to find parts! A video with all the easily removed covers will give some of us a better view to help you. To bad you can not keep thes3 two saw to have as a piece's of family history. The Skil 1690 is a 139 CC saw,a rare muscle saw. The Skil 1680 is a 123 CC Muscle saw.

I got more pictures of them up on ebay, however when I removed the muffler on the 1680 and from all the years it was pretty dirty I'd like to clean it out a bit so people can see the condition of everything in it when there's not so much debris what kind of spray can I use? From what I understand brake cleaner leaves no residue would that be a good choice? Thanks so much for your help man.

Simple Green and a water is safer. Be sure to blow off the extra water.

I'm not really comfortable with putting water or any sort of moisture in it I probably best just leave it alone... Damn I wish I was a mechanic I would love to hear these things run. I'm thinking about keeping the titan for myself and getting it up and running the look and feel of it is definitely my style of chainsaw.
