I voted for the 359/372, but in reality I would pick up my 346NE/372 or 7900. If I was using Stihl's it would be the 260 and the 460.

Stihl being the only saws I work with I go for those. But atm i'd prefer either an 020 or 260 + a 660.

Personally, I Enjoy Rebuilding Chain Saws. I Totally Rebuilt my
044, 20" Bar, 034, 16" Bar Rebuilt it with a set of Piston Rings, and Cylinder Gasket and Fixed a Bar Oil Leak on a 024,
16" X .325 Pitch, replaced the Oil Cap, to fix the Oil Leak.
I use my 024, for clearing the Brush off the Trees, up to 5" in Diameter, 034 for stuff from 5" to 10" in Diameter, and the 044, for the Rest.

The choice is so biased... I did not vote. Comparing a 290 to a 372?

For firewood I would want a 346XP/NE and an MS361.

The End.

My two are not listed as an option.

I use a sthil 361 and 088.

The 361 for all the small stuff and the 088 forthe big hardwood rounds. Just get it going and let gravety do the rest.

The 361 I can use all day long. A builders wheel bower comes in handy for transporting the 88 round the farm

Look at it this way. A lot of guys have just one Saw to go and Cut Fire Wood with. Others have a Two, or Three Saw Plan, that they cut Fire Wood with.
One Saw Plan, is a Possibility, that they cut Fire Wood from Logs, that have been Delivered to them, or they are Built like Hulk Hogan , and don't mind using One Saw to do the Limbing.
Two Saw Plan, I used for a long time. One saw had a 16" Bar, for the Limbing, and Bucking up to 14" to 16" Stuff in Diameter. The other Saw had a 20" Bar, and that did the rest.
Later on, I went to a Three Saw Plan, and I used a Chain Saw, with a 12" Bar, for the Limbing, up to 4" in Diameter, and then I switched to the next Sized Bar.
If you where cutting Fire wood for your self, (just for advice, not telling you what to get here) something along the Size of a
026, with a 16" Bar for Limbing, and up to a certain Diameter, and something along the lines of an 034 to 044, some where along there, with a 20" Bar. Both these Chain Saws can handle a 28" Bar.
Also depends on How Big your Timber is, that you are Cutting as well, and how fast you want to cut Fire Wood. Just my opinion.
Bruce.

My big saws 660 880 and 090 I don't consider firewood saws. When they come out usually I am going to crane the log into one of my log trucks and dump on somebody else's pile and let them try and make a few bucks out of breaking huge pieces up. I know I cannot.

Im happy cutting the big block stuff with the 088 cause once the chainsaw is on the log it does all the work. I then use my 15year old to do the splitting. Gives him a bit of pocket money and some exersice.

We only use a few tons of firewood a year but with our sustainable forestry on our property we generate a few hundred. As the boy wanted to make extra I ended up developing the EcoSaw range of firewood processors.

Chainsaws and manual splitting is still the cheapest option even for those town folk without trees. Get some logs delivered and do it yourself or get a permit and go and collect the logs yourself. Opportunity to get out into nature for a while. If you want to be really eco-friendly use one of those old style pull saws. Lots of exersice and very little pollution created

If you have ever see Stan use one of these you will know that some people can cut just as fast by hand not machine.

?Pull Saw? Does anyone makes these now, I feel a new product range. Generates virtually no pollution and helps exersice everyone. ?Log delivery business not just firewood?

I know you are not planning to use the 660 for your new "climb saw"?

Power to weight ratio is exceptional IMO.

should have never bought POS 192 Bill. What's more, those are 2 lame choices for Stihls on the pole up top. This is a pro forum, let's put some pro saws up there like ms....200, 361, 440, 460, etc. Maybe why the forum didn't work out in posts.

I know a guy who has climbed with a 660, but then again he was a bit more loopy than your average climber.

A lot of people here use the 200T (spanks the 192) for limbing and bucket work. Guys I know here that top and block cut larger trees climb with 360s or 361s. Ekka uses a 440 for climbing in palms in Oz. I cannot imagine climbing with a beast like a 660.

If all you need is a 20 inch bar, I would opt for a 361. Lot less weight, and good power for that bar. I run mostly 20 and 25 inch bars on my 361s with full comp chain. Get a 3/4 wrap for it (I posted the 361 mods and options thread here on this and some other forums).

I agree, but woted for the Jonsered combo, as the 359 makes little sense as the only companion for the 372xp/2171.....

346xp and 372xp it is!

I run my 660 for everything. Whether i am cutting firewood or felling. The big saw makes all the firewood cuts go a lot faster.

I have Stihls ranging from MS200 right up to the 090AV and Huskies 346,372,395XP. But my favorite saw to cut just firewood with is my Stihl 038 Mag. Its power is decent ,tough as nails and its wide fat bottom always keeps it sitting flat on the ground without falling over while idling, waiting for me while I'm handling the wood etc.

I'm also not putting in a vote up top. That stihl combo is about the crappiest grouping for any kind of a "professional use" combo.

I'd say 200T and 361. Only because I havent owned a Stihl bigger than the 361 yet.

And, at the moment, I'm using the 361 as my climbing saw. Coil went out on the 200T. The lack of business right now doesnt really justify fixing it yet. Using the 361 is a workout after 6 or more hours, but it's hella-nice. Now I've got 16", 20", 24", 28" and 32" bars for it.... but the 32" is really pushing it. I only use the 32" with skip chain and only on really soft stuff like pine.

Premium stihl combo, I'd say 200T and either a 440 or 460

I dont climb so tree felling is a different thing for me.

I use a 260C for all day deliming and firewood, the 361 for all the bigger stuff including slabbing and the 088 for anything over 500mm diameter.

I do use the 361 for the mouth on larger trees as it is easier to keep at sholder height. I then use the 088 and either a 36"bar or 60"bar. I prefer the 60" as the chainsaw is better ballanced and once in the timber only needs the throttle holding.

Presently I have a Great Three Saw Plan, that I use , but it is with Older Stihl Chain Saws. My Plan consists of a 024, 034, and a 044. Later I found out after buying my 024, it was Built for more of the Home Owner Quality, rather than the Commercial Quality. It works Great for me, and mt Operation here on the Farm. Thanks. Bruce.
