Kevin heres my 1991-92 Stihl 066 Mag Artic "Red Light" with dual port muffler. As I said earlier I bought her brand new in 1992. She has over 2000 hours on her now, still has lots of compression and I never had its cylinder off. Just normal maintenence. Notice the rubber Jonsered starter handle, sure beats the original Stihl Elasto-start handle that always turns around into the backwards position while the saws cutting. This even sided Jonsered handle can turn all it wants and its always ready to be grabbed with an even grip. For the collectors reading this, notice the Oregon 50 AL .404 chain. Yes .050 square ground .0404. Pretty rare these days.I got about 50 feet of it left. If you zoom in close you can see I took the corners off it from hitting a rock. Willard. |

Heres one more picture, zoom in real close a see the heating element attached on top of the carb. Thats why this 066 is called an "Artic". Still heats the carb perfect after 18 years, is automatically controlled by a thermostat keeping an even 77 degrees F. Notice also to the right of the carb the LED "Red Light". Willard. |

| for sharing that 066 artic RL Willard. ![]() You can tell yours has been left alone since you was able to buy it new, unlike mine. I know where a bunch of 404 050 is. I try to stay away from 404 myself in any form 050 058 063. But now have ended up with 2 blasted bars for it. They will go on saws when I sale the bigger stuff off. That reminds me I got to get me some repair links for some 404 oregon 59 right now too. |

My 066 used to be my main big wood ground saw for my tree service but now its my 395XP. I run .404 on these big guys because this chain is a real tough durable workhorse like the saws, good match. Willard. |

Here is one that i finished putting together, out of a box of parts, and a parts chain saw as well. It is a 084. I borrowed a bar, and chain, for the time being, till the one I ordered get is. The bar, and chain are 30" X .404", that I borrowed. The bar I ordered is a Carlton 30" X 3/8", by 0.050 gauge, and a roll of Semi Chisel chain to fit this chain saw, and make a few loops, to fit a few of my other chain saws as well. Thanks. Bruce.

Bruce curious how much a new 088 clutch cover cost you up your way? I bought one for my project 084 when I didnt have a extra cover. soho That is a Partner 500 in that pic open port. There is also the yellow cased 500's there is the early Partner 5000 open port, then there is the late model 5000 plus closed port. Yes my favorite 49cc saws. Then you have the Jonsered 490 cosed port which is same as the 5000 plus made by Partner. Then you got Jred 590 1mm more bore closed port. I have seen 500's in 44mm and 45mm bore even though they state only 44mm bore was used. Thinking someone could have swapped top ends in past, who knows . Then you have the Poulan pro 325 type 1 closed port, late model open port, which is like the Partner 5000 plus but with 2mm larger bore, made by partner. Then there is the Jobu 949 and 949S which looks just like a Jred 490 and comes out of Norway as rebadged saw in Jobu. Yeah I love those saws .Here is one of mine that was WAY TO LEAN during testing one day. ![]() |

Interesting history on the Jo Bu saws out of Norway [referring to your post #250]. Back in 1948 3 Norwegians, [one a gunsmith] produced the 1st true one man chainsaw in the world. The Jo-Bu Senior, they sold 7,300 of them. In 1952 they produced the "Junior" ,76cc,23 lbs with 18" b/c included. They sold almost 40,000 of these. In 1949 another Norwegian Rasmus Wiig produced a one man diesel chainsaw named the "Comet" weighing only 19 lbs b/c included. In 1950 he had Jonsered make parts for the Comet and it wasn't long later Jonsered bought out the company and started producing their own saws. Also in 1949 McCulloch produced their 1st one man saw the 3-25 . The 3-25 was 6 lbs heavier then the Comet. Willard. | |

I was able to find the time yesterday, to get one of my Strunk chain saws running. It is a Busy Beaver, and it has a Tillotson HP carburetor, that the parts where obsolete, or hard to find. Dad had a Strunk chain saw, that he couldn't find parts for his carburetor, and that was over 35 years ago. Dad tossed it, but he wished he would have kept it, and so do I. I was able to find most of the parts for it on line, from another website, gaskets, fuel pump diaphragm, but I had to have a guy make a diaphragm for it, using the metal backing plate, or the diaphragm. I also have a Strunk SpeeDemon Special, that I had to get carburetor parts for as well, and I had it put together, and running a while ago. Bruce

According to Mike Acre's web site, the Busy Beaver was introduced in 1956, and the SpeeDemon Special, was introduced in 1955. I have no idea, when they were discontinued. Bruce

Dad had either a Strunk Big Timber Pro, or a Custom Pro. These were the only two models equipped with a 30" bar, for the longest bar, and chain. That is what Dad's had. He tossed it in 1974, and wished that he would have kept it. So do I. Thanks Willard, for posting the article. Bruce

I am not currently working professionally in the industry, but STIHL have four saws that were used for felling Queensland hardwood for milling. They are all Stihl 090's. One has rigid handle bars, bought secondhand and my first saw and the other three have AV bars with the wrap around bar opposed to the T-Bar. I've worn out two and one was bought for parts although does go. I used the Stihl's for their power, reliabilty and parts availability. The local dealer was great, knew nothing about chainsaw's but never claimed to, but sold us everything below retail price, and we kept going back. As for tree pruning, I have used the 020, and more than happy with it. I can understand the Husky's being well liked. Excalibur |

| Each to their own. After running my Stihl 044, I tried my cousins Husky, for a few cuts and there was very little comparison, between the two saws, other than my 044 had the muffler modified, had it bit more power, and speed, while his was still at stock, as he wants to leave his that way, until his warranty runs out. After on cut with my 044, he was very impressed with my chain saw, and I told him, if he wanted his modified, I'd do it for him, as I have done all my other chain saws. Bruce.

Yea, Stihl is much as same. Nice saws. Maybe I just like orange . I see you have tons of McCulloch. Why?. I'm sorry, but I've spent too much time fiddling with the things. They remind me of Sears Craftsman; ugh, keep away.BTW, I used a Stihl 44 for a summer, so I'm baptized. Nice saw; not as nice as a Husky. (Actually, a very nice saw; I could live with it). |

I've recently learned sharpening chisel tooth. What a difference. Talk about flying through the wood. Try it. |
