I checked Husqvarna's site and it appears they did some porting changes to the 338XPT "new edition". Thats what Stihl did way back when they switched over from the last of the 020s to the 200s. Last edited by Willard Holmen; 31st March 2009 at 01:49 PM. Reason: correction

| Hello Niko its good to see you on Tree World again. We can sure use your saw knowledge to liven up this chainsaw forum. Yes that oversized Stihl 090 is sure something to see. In non-metric terms it was 10 cubic inch displacement so if I did my math right it should be 175 cc. OOPS my memory is slipping here [I saw the 090 in 1984] I just used the Google calculator and that should be 164 cc. cheers, Willard. Last edited by Willard Holmen; 9th April 2009 at 03:56 AM. I have gotten to really like my Stihl 024. I carry it in the Bush, in a Box that I mounted on top of the Fender of the Tractor, and Limb the Tree Tops, prior to Skidding them out. Nice little Chain Saw to work with. I have even cut down Tree Stubs with it that are around the 12" to 16" Mark in Diameter, that have had the rest of the Tree snapped off by the Wind. Great little Chain Saw. Bruce.

i worked with another tree service today, might turn out full time, anyway the 441 is good,i like the 650 too,i might have to buy a 650,that would make a nice climb saw,for me anyway, weighs about the same as my 51,has a ton more power, plus its nice to use.

Now the Stihl 441 is getting mixed reviews but then a radical new saw like it will do that. Now this 650 your talking about can't be an old Pioneer 650 LOL. so its got to be the Stihl 650 which is the same weight as it big brother the 660. The 650 Stihl is way heavier then the Husqvarna 51, now if you like the 441 why wouldn't you use that as a climb saw? And if you have been using the 51 up until now as a climb saw then the Husqvarna 346XP NE will blow you away. Just my 2 cents.

I like McCollughs.....for boat anchors... It seems like theres always someone bringing you an McCollough or Polland that is an 80.00 saw to fix for them..

speaking of boat anchors, I think it would be very entertaining to see somebody climbing around with a 660/650 attached to their saddle, esp if they didn't have a suspender set.

Give them time, they'll grow on ya. There's only one advantage of a rear handled small climb saw , and that is reach, but only if used with one hand, which isn't safe. A 51 weighs about 11.5 lb dry, a 650/660 16 lb....and it is longer, so will feel even heavier. No comparison, either, one has 3 hp, the other 7...... Holmen..most feel the central position of the handgrip on a 200 gives it a bit better balance than a 338/2139.......also, the 338 isn't really air injected. And, with that fron filter position, they get dirty quick! I prefer the Husky/Jonsy's, but only if they have been muffler modded. Go to my youtube site, and check out the climb saw video. Mine was 40% faster when I added the ported muffler! |

How about them Dolmars???? My favorite brand changes some. I will always believe a Husky is the strongest runner in most classes but the ultimate 3 saw plan for me right now would be Dolmar: 420, 5100 and 7900. |

| Where do you find a Dolmar in Ohio? I had a Sachs Dolmar decades ago as a climbing saw, wonder if it is related?

There are a few places to pick them up. I am right up the road from you in Franklin and bought mine in Springboro. They do not stock much however. I talked to a guy in Xenia who gave me a good price on a 5100 and am currently saving my pennies. Parts are readily available on the internet. Amicks etc. Nice quality saws. |

My favorite saw was Homelite back when it was blue, but since it has gone the way of the dodo bird Stihl is the one I use now. Knothead56 |

Howdy all from the newbie. I have ran both Stihl and Husqvarna for years, and for the most part they have been extremely good saws and long lasting. I don't have any real strong dislikes about anything on either of them. I just bought a new JD CS-71, but I haven't got my hands on it yet. I keep reading really good things about the new JD saws, I know awhile back they were considered pretty much junk ( I believe that was the JD / Homelite experiment, but I could be wrong ) I am excited to get this saw and see what it's like. Have any of you ran any of the new CS line of saws, or had some kind of experience with them ? If so I'd be really curious what's your thoughts on them. Thanks gang and I look forward to getting to know you all. |

Tell you the Truth, I'm very happy with my Stihl 024. That Chain Saw, is one of the most used, and handy and lioght weight little Chain Saw, that I have ever operated. Lots of power for Liming from 2" to 6" diameter Blocks of Fire Wood. I even made a Marking Stick, that mounts on the Wrap Around Handel, for measuring the desired lengths of the Fire Wood that I'm cutting. I used to use a Mini Mac McCulloch for this job, but that Anti Vibration that the 024 has is something else, and has a bit more power and a lot more Speed to it. Bruce.

Thanks for the welcome TV I'm not going to be getting the JD saw after all. The guy wrote me back right away and said he no longer had the saw. I got my money back and ended up getting a used 371 XP. It's supposed to be here Thursday. I can't wait to fire it up. |

What I meant to mention was that I did indeed hear from a dealer here that JD is no longer making saws and Deere dealers will be carrying Stihl saws now. That works for me as I love the Stihl's I have ran, although I must admit that I will still be trolling E- Bay and wherever looking for a nice CS saw for someday down the road. |
