Default Fast-idling saw

My older Poulan Deluxe Super 25 has been cleaned thoroughly, new carb kit and checked for crankcase leaks, yet runs at 90% of full out on idle! I still suspect the jets in the carb throat. There is a small check valve that I haven't messed with, and when it is going I put my thumb over the intake and it dies(I assume that means there are no air leaks around crankcase). I am grateful for any insights/wisdom; This is my first post I think this site is cool.

Check your idle adjustment, turn it out unti lthe saw tries to die then turn it in about 1/2 a turn.If that doesn't do it,then its your hi/lo adjustment, turn them both all the way in,then give them each 2 full turns out.

I just looked up in my Chain Saw Service Manual for Carburetor Adjustments for your Chain Saw. Turn your Needle Valves in to Lightly Seated. Initial setting of Idle Mixture Screw and High Speed Mixture Screw, is One Turn Open. Adjust Idle Speed Screw, until Engine will Idle just below Clutch Engagement Speed. Adjust Idle mixture Screws Engine will Accelerate without Hesitation. High Speed Mixture Screw, should be Adjusted to obtain Optimal Performance with Engine Cutting Load. Be sure Mixture Settings are not too Lean, as result in Engine Damage.
Hope this help you. Bruce.
