How well do people like the dolmar7900 around here. I curently have 2 of them and like them pretty good. the only issues ive had so far is the hd air filter keeps breaking on me and the crank seals went out on one at about six months. Dolmar has covered all the problems under warantee so far.The first 7900 i have was bought new in july and has been run evry day since except the weekends the other one is just a few days old and has the heated handle option. They copare pretty well with 385 huskys i think but a lot lighter. anyway i was just wondering what everyone thought about these saws.

I don't have a 7900 but have ran a few different ones at GTGs. I like them just fine, if I was to come across one cheap I'd get it I like used saws.

| i one 385 and 4 7900's including one BB. i will take the dollies any day. the 7900 is a couple of ounces shy of two pounds lighter than the 385 and less bulky feeling. cutting speed is pretty much a push. the 385 holds a very slight advantage in smoothness. a 7900 is still a very smooth saw. if you didn't run them side by side you would never complain about vibs from a 7900.

i can't tell any difference. the BB kits are not things of beauty. the transfer outlets were jellybean shaped. i squared them up some and put the P/C on the saw. i haven't run both varieties side by side, but i have a good bit of time on the BB and i think you would to cut cookies to see if there is an advantage either way. i have gone back into the saw and reduced the squish from about .050. i removed the base gasket and am running a coke can. it is down to .030 and i can get another .005 off of that measurement. what surprised me was that dropping the squish that much only gained me 3psi.

Overall the 7900 is a solid saw, I have a few of them and haven't had any issues. The BB kits have a little more power, but they obviously don't have the quality of the OEM kits. Last edited by Andyshine77; 11th January 2011 at 03:55 PM. |

| i reglued the last one myself and its holding together so far so maybe they just got ahold of some bad glue or didnt use enogh on the filters .They do work well when they stay together. The heated handle bars really work well on the 7900.

I'll probably get laughed at for this but, does anyone have a method of stopping it leaking bar oil all over the shelf? I bought mine in August & it's making a hell of a mess! My other saws leak it too, but not to this extent! |

The 7900's are known for leaking oil. Check the oil line that goes into the tank, and the oil pickup line that goes from the pump to the bar itself. With all that said the main problem is pressure buildup in the oil tank itself. I simply drain the tank if I'm going to store the saw for more than a week or two. It's really not an issue if you ask me.

Love mine! Runs strong and just keeps working. Dealer is trying to talk me into the HD filter but I have had no trouble with the standard as long as I keep the chain sharp it does fine.

The HD filter is great, but for most it's not needed.

| I've now got 2 Makitas & while I'm happy with both of them, they both have this problem! I've resorted to turning the oil flow all the way down between jobs, I'm just hoping I don't forget to up it again before I use the saw!

Big fan of the 7900 here. One of the best power to weight ratios out in the current market place, quite possibly one of the best saws produced today, IMO. Not a fan of the big bore kits, not quality stuff from what I've seen...
