Default Climbing Saw

Im after a climbing saw in the next month or so when the government throws money at me for being an apprentice. I would love an MS200T but thats like double the voucher's value. All I know is Stihls, know nothing about Husqvarnas and Echoes. It wont get used everyday, but wont spend months sitting still. The MS192's aren't too bad but it needs more power when it gets to bigger sections. Husqi's don't look bad and can get them cheaper than the Stihl's. Echo's I have nfi about, is their climbing saw any good and whats the price tag on it?

Yes, Echo 350T or 360T is a half decent saw. Shit on a Stihl 192 buzzbox any day.

Whats the price tag on them though? And anyone know where in Melbourne the Echo dealers are hiding? I only see them @ the garden show.

The Echo is a well made saw, the 350T I think is about $700. I haven't checked the prices for a while.

What's your postcode? I'll pm you the dealers near there.

List price will be a fair bit more, but they can knock off $150 or more. I'll get a price from my dealer next week.

Have you considered importing a 200t from the US - I think at the moment it would cost you around $800 AUS to import a new one.

Ekka any of you guys put the Solo 637 T through the ringer over there yet?

For almost a 1/3 of the price of a 200T it gets my homeowner duties done. But it aint know 200 either in the cut.

The only thing i didnt like about the husky 338 was that it didnt have gunning sites. I found them usefull at the beginning of tafe for doing scarfs when topping out. Im not sure about the solos etc if they have them

I've been using a 360T for ages now. It's a nuisance saw. Temperamental, highly weather sensitive and poorly balanced. Go with the Stihl. Far better quality and nicer balance in the 192T. That will be my next climbing saw. You should be able to pick up a 192T these days for around $550 if you shop around and talk hard.

Has anyone tried out the Husqvarna T435? Looks good from the specs.

Maybe the Echos run better in Qld as it's not brass monkey to bushfire weather.

Thanks for that, nothing worse than a poorly balanced saw for those inevitable 1 hand cuts. 192 retails @ $659, my old boss got one for $500 at my local Stihl dealer. You can get ex training Husqi's for cheapish atm.

I was really happy with Echo chainsaws, until I used my mate's Stihl. I'd been using Echo brushcutters too, but recently bought a Husqy and won't go back.

Last week I just ordered a new Husqvarna 338XPT FOR $600 Canadian plus tax. So my Stihl MS200T is up for sale , bought new in 2008, low hours. Very strong reliable condition, never dropped.
I totally switched from Stihl to Husqvarna over the last 2 years because of a local Stihl dealer who needs an attitude adjustment. I am very happy with my local Husky dealer with his service and the product he sells.
I have arborist buddies in the big city who will take my MS200 off my hands , but I like the idea of my saw going half ways around the world and cutting wood over there.
I'm asking $250 Canadian plus shipping, I'll throw in an excellent condition used Buckingham bungee breakaway lanyard. No b/c to help save shipping costs.
And seeing your well respected here on TreeWorld Apocalypsse I'll send you the saw and you can pay me later. If your not happy use it for a week to pay for the shipping costs back to me.
Willard.

You sure couldn't beat that deal. CAD is about 90c to $1AUD at the moment.

Good luck with the 338 Willard. I don't like them, rarely use mine.

I've been running 020/ MS200 s for years. I need a change. I like the looks of the 338, I'm getting a 2010 model, latest updates and improvements.

By the time Apoc pays the shipping and who knows what else its going to be over $300 CAD. We just got to figure out how he can pay to my bank account.
Yeah I'm letting the MS200 go cheap. It has paid for itself many times over, I'm sure not out to make a profit on it. This saw is now just nicely broke in and is now going to an arborist brother half ways around the world.
We're all brothers here , right?!?!

So it is going to Oz - I guess that is as close to "half ways" as you can get?????

Just a random note - I have heard about more carb issues with the MS200 and the MS260 (each of them), than with all other saw models combined - I hardly believe that is a coinsidence.

When the MS200 first came out 5-7 yrs [?] ago, a demo I tried had major lean out erratic running issues.
Then when I bought this last ms200 new a few yrs ago it never ran right out of the box , the dealer gave me a new carb on warranty. Has run perfect ever since up until about a month ago, I put new diaphrams in and now runs perfect again.

I'm still waiting for my 338, should be in any day now. I'm located in a remote small town of about 9000. 1,500 km from the Husqvarna warehouse.
My Husky dealer pays big time for shipping costs so he waits until he gets enough saws and parts on the order list to make it worthwhile. No problem to me because he is a great guy to deal with.
The MS200 is sitting on my workbench at the moment with the gas cap off airing out .I should have it in the mail [plane] by the weekend heading for OZ.
