Ok so I cut with my recently acquired jonsered 830 for a few sundays and this past sunday it was having a little trouble staying running and also getting started. So I tracked down a local dealer (how lucky am I?) I called and they said I need to run 40:1 instead of 50:1, so Im thinking that might have been my problem or the carb needs adjusted. The dealer was an old timer and a real nice guy. I think he was a little surprised a young buck like me had an 830 I ordered two new chains a few weeks ago and the gauge on them was .050. The dealer informed me that the chain is supposed to be .058. So can I keep using these chains or should I buy new ones with the right gauge. Is it gonna hurt anything or affect performance? I want to take care of this saw cause I was looking at prices of comparable jonsereds and I wont be affording them anytime soon if anything goes wrong with this saw and Ill be damned if I go back to that 455 rancher thats now collecting dust in the garage!

Sam glad to see you wised up and got a pro saw, welcome to the big boys area Now then what length bar ? The .50 gauge is fine,.58 is a queer duck in the states,it more other countries specific. Get a .50 gauge bar and get you tail feathers headin to the woods. You should take the saw in and have the old timer give her look over,go ahead and do the carby rebuild and new fuel and impulse line, then you know it will not die a preventable death. Yes al saw need premium petrol an 40-1 mix. |

I knew youd come through for me redneck! Ok so first can I run the bar I have now with the .050 or will it screw anything up. Second what and where is the impulse line. Im guessing the fuel line is under the air filter there. I can usually figure mechanical stuff out just never had anyone to teach me! Does the gauge actually have anything to do with the saw or is it what bar you chose. What are the advantages/disadvantages of different gauges? Also where can I get a new carb for the saw and how hard is that to replace? I gotta do this stuff myself cause I dont have much money. The old timer has the saw and is looking it over right now! He kinda smiled whne he said he would lokk at it and then informed me he might take it out back and make sure it works right! Yeah I was proud! haha! Oh and the bar length is 20 in

Sam the only time .58 and .63 gauge chain is really needed is bars over 28" and when running the heavier .404 chain. The impulse come's from the base of the right side of the cylinder aka the jug. Ask the old timer to see what he thinks of the fuel system and carby,If you pay him to do it you make a friend for life The saw can run a 28" .50 bar. Were did the bar come from? The old timer sure sounds like my kinda guy, lots of knowledge. Be respectful of him and give him some freedom to play with the saw,he may just be able to get that thing purring perfect. Carby's are easy, for you I would do a video before removal, and during that way if you do it versus the old timer you will have a long term reference to the lay out. |
