The original carlton was and is great. The new carlton I have not used. Carlton is now owned by oregon just like windsor is.

It was alright when I used it, did stretch a bit more than Oregon or Stihl I found.

I use Carlton chain here all the time now, with a few Stihl chains as well. I find that the Carlton stays sharper, for a little longer, than that of the Stihl chain. I cut my fire wood from tree tops, and wind fell trees, that I skid out of our bush, here on the farm, with the tractor. They consist of Ash, and Soft Maple, and yes, they get pretty dirty, from skidding. But that is my opinion. Bruce.

I'm runnin carlton on a 32" carlton bar, 104 DL, and it is a little better than OK. I haven't had any problems with it. It's Square Ground Chisel Skip. Does seem to have a stretch that I've not had with Stihl chain, but good for the price when I need to use a long bar. Found a deal for bar and chain at Bailey's for about 50% off, couldn't pass it up.

Seems to stay sharp about as long as Stihl or Oregon, but like has been said above, it is soft & it does stretch more easily. Because it's so soft, the drive links bend very easily if it flicks off.
