Yea i agree it wont hurt the engine much if at all, but its annoying ! How does it keep the bar oiled better i would think it would be less, but maybe physics don't work with bar oil ! I do blip every now and then, i am talking about blip blip blip cut wood blip blip blip blip blip cut wood ! Gotta burn more fuel if anything ! Maybe the same reason people hammer on the throttle when riding there harleys. Just to hear the engine ! Kindof like a rocking chair, gives you something to do but doesnt get you anywhere ! LOL !

I blip when the mood hits me just right. Nah, I forget who said it but I agree, limbing with the throttle pinned seems a bit much sometimes. Plus when you've just made a long cut in some big sappy softwood, then I definitely blip the bugger. |

Since this thread started, I've been monitoring my "blipping"; What I've observed is that I do not "blip" my chainsaws at all. I just warm them up & WOT as I start the cut, back to idle once the cut is made. However, I "blip" all of my other 2 stroke gear. Blowers, whips, hedge trimmers! In fact, I cannot see how you could use a blower effectively without "blipping" it! I've had mechanics tell me that blipping a whip will cause damage to the clutch. I blip them mercilessly, because I need too. Never had even a clutch spring go on me |

I've been known to blip a time or two. Normally when my saw isn't wanting to idle right, and I don't feel like walking back to the garage for a screwdriver. I can see why a lot of guys do it when cutting certain types/ sizes of wood etc. Like most of you I want to strangle some of the chronic blippers. |

I see some say they blip to get good lube on the chain and bar. Ok so if you think blipping drives some people crazy, I will run a saw at 1/3 throttle for a bit if it is a saw that hasn't been run in a few days. this gets good oil flow, low sling off and does not heat up bar and chain before oil flows. Oh yeh and I especially like doing it when my partner is repeating something. bbrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr what? bbrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr what? bbbrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr never mind!

I'd have to say that I'm a blipper as well. Not the full throttle blip though and certainly not when stone cold! I think there are some examples that are taken out of context - such as blipping while walking, that's just plain dangerous and you would hope that common sense is used in these situations - but I realise that common sense is being killed by those not smart enough or big enough to take responsibility for their own actions. I also think that the blipping comes from the 2 stroke - it's no good blipping one of those new 4stroke2 things, they just don't like it! I dunno how many of you have ridden a 2 stroke motor bike, but I know the old one we used to have here got up and went a pot load better if you "stabbed" or "blipped" the throttle, the thing would just get up and go after doing this then returning back to full or half throttle! But if you just gave it everything you wanted it to have like a four stroke it would struggle to pick up revs until it was up high again. I guess there are two reasons as to why I blip the throttle on the saw - 1st is to get some chain speed up before starting a cut and the 2nd is to help clear out the saw dust that can gather in the clutch housing area. Cheers Bennie |
