Default Best Budget Chainsaw

Hello, i am looking for a 16 or 18" chainsaw, mostly for hobby stuff, i'd be cutting down just a couple trees a year for making bows. although i'd love a top of the line saw, i just can't afford it or justify it right now. i was wondering if i could get your opinions on the best 16 or 18" budget chainsaw?

thanks, Dan

Sometimes choosing new and $200 for a good saw dont go together.

I would have worked a deal out with you on this one. It just sets on my shelf as a back up to the back ups. Partner 500, Cuts like the Dolmar 5100, Husky NE 346, Stihl MS260 etc.

You wont get much for 200 or less, at least not new. I recomend looking for a good used saw. Stihl MS250 or Husky 350 come up from time to time on Craigslist, garage sales, and flea markets for around that price. I got a good condition MS260 for 220 at a flea market a couple of years ago.

i guess i need to rethink the "new" aspect. I'd rather have a better used saw than a crappy new one.

so what is a good used saw that is under 200, i see some of what you have already posted, thanks,

Dan.

After much more research i think i will be better served to spend a bit more and get about a 300.00 saw

What do you think of these choices, based on: saw quality and reliability, parts and service and customer service of the respective companies. I have read reviews that Echo has terrible customer service, not sure if it's true just what i heard. here are my choices:

Stihl 250 C-BE
Husqvarna 350
Husqvarna 445
Echo CS-400

You can get a new Redmax 5000 with a 20" b+c for $299 ON SALE right now + about $15 shipping online from a dealer I do business with. 49cc saw, runs great. I have one that was woods ported for a limbing saw. Runs good for a bucking saw too.

200 just is too little money for any decent saw, even in the US - unless you strike luck on Craigslist etc.....

Shucks this is an easy one. Head to Sears and get the Husqvarna 435, or 445. The saws are on a sale price much of the time. For under $300 it is a great little saw.Look at Tractor Supply also.Ken

He said "less than 200" - not 2-300, as I recall it!

....but the 435 is the cheapest saw I would (somewhat) recommend as well - but surely not with a 18" bar, rather a 13" one!
