Default Bar sizes on your saws

Just wondering what size bars you guys run on what size saws - and further to that what sort of work do you usually use these for?

For example:
me
*260 with a 16in bar usually on palms and ground work
*440 with 16/20in bar usually 16 on palms and 20 on med sized urban work.
*660 with 20in when firewooding or 25 on stumps/bigger trees
occasionally stretch to a 36in on the biggest of our work (rarely)

Husky

338 XPT-16 inch aloft

Stihl (I have a range of bars 16, 18, 20, 25, and 36)

361 anything from 16 ~ 20 Firewood, felling < 2ft DBH Euc's, Blocking down

460 anything from 16 ~ 25 Firewood, felling < 4ft DBH (occasionally use to run 36 at a pinch before the 660)

660 anything from 20 ~ 36 Firewood (not so much), felling 2ft DBH+

I am in the market for an 880 with a 42 or larger, I have enough big timber to fell to warrant easing the pressure on the smaller saw and simplifying the task.

Currently all (with exception of the climbing saw) run 3/8 .050 to keep things simple and cheaper (chain by the roll). I believe the 880 will be running 404 thou.

Regards

Tony

I use a 16" on my Jonsered 2149 for smaller firewood

I also have an incoming Husqvarna 365 Special with 20" bar, for larger trees and bucking.

Hey Bluegill,

Did you run your Special stock? Just wondering how it compared to your 357XP. Much difference between the two?

No, Stumpy built it from parts and did a mild port job. I bought a new oem 372xpw 75cc top end and told him to build a saw around it. So it's really a big bore 372 wearing 365 cloths. Hahaha it's an animal.

I do have a 2165, which is the same as a 365 and it'll out cut the 357xp in larger wood. But the 357 is faster in smaller wood. They are fairly close though. Both great saws.
