Default bar and chain for my MS361

Gents, i'm not a tree lopper by profession - just admire quality tools and its time to replace my bar and chain on the trusty 361.

Anyone recommend a bar and chain (locally) that is value for money.

I'm thinking of going to a 2ft bar...

Depends on what you use you have for it? Some things to consider.
What yout cutting? Firewood (dry, green, what size) Felling (what DBH) Do you work in the tree or only from the ground?
How often do you need a 24" bar?.
As I run a 16 and on occasion a 18 and wouldn't bother with anything more than a 20 ever on my 361 I'd say your pushing the limit a little on that saw with a 24/25 if regularily used.
Chain also depends on what your cutting ?? Lots of opinions there. (Stihl chain is the way to go)

Cheers

Tony

generally camping, falling the odd tree.

Yeh come to think of it 2ft will be a bit unbalanced.

Ok i'll stick to the stihl chains, and perhaps a carlton bar to suit.

Thumbs up Re: bar and chain for my MS361

Go for a 18" bar and full house chain.

Yes, 18 inch is right for the 361. I use a 24 maybe once a year for a tree over 3.5 feet diameter, but put the 18 back on after I cut off the first couple of logs. The 24 is way off balance for the 361.

G'day mate are you using it for firewood while camping, or do you need a chainsaw while camping in remote areas to get fallen trees off the road so you can get through & continue on your way?

If 1) go the shorter bar

If 2) go the longer bar.

I usually use with my Stihl 16" sometimes 18", but i have smaller and bigger saw than MS361.
