Might be interesting to know.

Some big changes coming.

The Intelligent Engine Management (IEM) system by STIHL – another innovative way STIHL chain saws give you maximum performance for the tough jobs.

The STIHL MS 280 and MS 280 C-BQ are equipped with the IEM System, which makes manual corrections of the carburetor’s high-speed screw are no longer necessary. These are the first chain saws in the world featuring this innovative engine management control system, which electronically optimizes the fuel mixture over the whole RPM-range, ensuring top engine performance. Here’s how it works. A microprocessor, integrated into the ignition module monitors engine RPM and controls the specially designed IEM System carburetor’s magnetic valve. The digitally controlled magnetic valve opens and closes 33 times per second, allowing for the precise control of the fuel feed. The microprocessor and magnetic valve where RPM is electronically measured and analyzed is powered by two pairs of magnetic poles on the flywheel. The fuel-air mixture is automatically and constantly adjusted, allowing maximum operating efficiency under varying conditions, like altitude, outside temperature or even fuel quality.
