Default 8 tooth sprocket dolmar 7900

i popped the 8 tooth stihl sprocket i had on to my 7900 last night.
i am running a sugihara 20" sv mount and 3/8 .50 stihl rsc.
when i tried to install the cover the rubber chip deflector hit the chain at the rear of the sprocket. turning the chain a little placed the cutters so that i could install the cover but not turn the chain more than a 1/2 inch or so.
so i let the teeth mark the rubber deflector then cut out the portion of rubber in the way with a razor.

is this standard practice when adding an 8 pin to the 7900?

No problems here with an 8 tooth sprocket at all.

For the sake of science, I just went and slipped it on with a Tsumura 20" bar and Carlton A2EP chain. I might go and try some new Stihl RMC and Windsor 58A as the Carlton has had a few sharpenings.

IIRC there was a clearence issue going to the 8 pin sprocket.

I think MCW said something about this recently. You might PM him and ask, or maybe he'll see this thread and chime in.

Naa, Matt has no problem running an 8 pin either, he uses the 8 up to his 25" bar.

Mine currently has the 8 on as I'm using the 20" bar and it's like a light sabre through green softwood.

I probably remember him telling someone that he didn't have a problem.

That would be a very fast setup you have there.
