Default 8 Tooth sprocket for Dolkita 7901?

Hello,

I would like to use an 8-tooth sprocket on my Makita 7901 Chainsaw, but I can't seem to find which one will fit.

I'm running an 18" Bar at the moment with a semi-skip chain for ripping cattle rails and fence posts.

I was thinking the 8-tooth would give more speed in ripping, especially since its a fairly short bar and not a full comp chain.

Am I wasting my time here? If it would be worthwile, does anyone know which sprocket will fit?

Thanks in advance,

Cran

Any 8 tooth, large spline 3/8th sprocket will work....only difference from your 7 pin is that it has one more.

I run 8 tooth on my woods ported Dolmars and 372's on bars up to 28", cutting mostly softwoods.....

Just try it, rims are cheap!

Change out that semi-skip chain with full comp anyway - it makes no sence on a 18" bar!

It makes sense to me. I've run full comp at it cuts no faster when ripping logs into rails, actually i've found it cuts them slower.

I've been told to use skip or semi skip to clear the chips better and allow the cutters to do their job. I don't know if thats the real reason but I definatley finish ripping a log sooner with the semi-skip.

Thanks for the spline info, i'm going to try the 8 and just see what its like.
