Hello, I would like to use an 8-tooth sprocket on my Makita 7901 Chainsaw, but I can't seem to find which one will fit. I'm running an 18" Bar at the moment with a semi-skip chain for ripping cattle rails and fence posts. I was thinking the 8-tooth would give more speed in ripping, especially since its a fairly short bar and not a full comp chain. Am I wasting my time here? If it would be worthwile, does anyone know which sprocket will fit? Thanks in advance, Cran |

Any 8 tooth, large spline 3/8th sprocket will work....only difference from your 7 pin is that it has one more. I run 8 tooth on my woods ported Dolmars and 372's on bars up to 28", cutting mostly softwoods..... |

Just try it, rims are cheap! Change out that semi-skip chain with full comp anyway - it makes no sence on a 18" bar! |

I've been told to use skip or semi skip to clear the chips better and allow the cutters to do their job. I don't know if thats the real reason but I definatley finish ripping a log sooner with the semi-skip. Thanks for the spline info, i'm going to try the 8 and just see what its like. | |
