Up to 2010 MS361 replaced the 036 and now MS362 strato is replacing the 361.

I would buy a MS361 if given the choice of the two, JMO.

I agree!

The MS362 has become heavier and bulkier, and the 311 is an over-heavy "homeowner" saw.

Has the 362 got less power because of these emission laws?

Agree with above. Get a MS361 if you still can. Probably still have a few on e-bay. Try to steer clear of the C-model if possible. It'll be apparent by the oversized trigger release lever stick up out of the handle. All other models have a lower (regular) profile lever there. C-model has an "inertia brake", as well as the standard chain brake. (Just something else to go wrong, IMO).

MS 361 is the way to go. I have had one for the last year. Love it.

Husky 560 will be out sometime soon. If you can wait, I would not overlook that one. The current 357 and 359 models are no slouch either. The Echo CS-600p is getting very good reviews, and is a little less coin going in. You could also look for another Stihl 036 or MS-360 in good shape. Are you trying to replace a worn out saw, or buy one outright? Rebuilding an 036 would almost certainly be cheaper than a new saw. As mentioned, the 362 is the current Stihl 60cc offering, just recently replacing the 361.

nah, just needed to confirm 360/036/361/362 were basically the same evolution.

Mate has said 036 and swears by it. I only have.... nevermind you'll think im crazy. but yeah need a midrange saw now.
