Default 066 tuning

Hi , i have just fully rebuilt an old 066 with a big bore kit and new crankshaft bearings etc .It runs fine at highspeed but will not maintain idle .Was wondering if it is just carburettor adjustment or air leakage . I didnt pressure test the crankcase .
what would be the carb settings ? are they different with the BB kit

Start by adjusting the low speed out 3/4's of a turn,1 full on the high side. Play with the low speed a till it goes to full throttle smoothly.

Tried that but still no luck . Just wont idle , i have to hold the throttle open to keep it going . Any Ideas ? I am still thinking i should pressure test ? was wondering if it had a crankcase leak wouldnbt it runn poorly at highspeed as well?

Did you replace the fuel line and filter and the impulse hose?

ok why did the saw blow up in the first place? you put new crank bearing in but did you put two new seals in? if the old bearings where shot the seals will be too..pull the fly wheel and clutch and as you pull the saw over with no plug, spray WD on the seal with the saw on its side just turn it over to do the other side if leaking you will see air bubbles 2 stokes have compression in the crankcase when the piston is going down ..... if its not that id be looking at the carbie did you put a new carbie kit in? and new spark plug...with these BB kits it seems a lot of people seem to have the same kind of problems getting them to run right...but it does seem to be carbie to me, if it was the impulse hose the saw would only run on choke for a few sec then die tell you choke it again...anyways good luck

Thumbs up Re: 066 tuning

Didnt replace fuel line or impulse as they seem in good condition . The saw dropped a big end bearing and a needle roller went up through the cylinder.I replaced all seals and gasket , The saw will fire once on full choke then i set it back to half choke full throttle and it fires up ,Just wont idle at all ,carb settings are 1 turn H and 3/4 to 1 turn L ,what should the LA be? will the LA setting stop the saw from idling at all ? soon as it comes off full throttle to low it stops.
It seems like quite abit of excess fuel is getting thru as the exhaust is wet initially .

Sounds like the metering lever is not set correctly.

yes i agree its getting way to much fuel the needle is getting held open easy fix just bend the lever down a little, just use a screwdriver to bend the lever down and a finger pushing down on the needle end to hold it, you will see what i mean when you get the carbie open..thats if you dont have the special tool..

If are having a time setting the needle arm on the carbie take it to some one local who does it every day and has the right tools to set it right.

Nope it is the one under the diaphragm that hooks to the needle.

Angry Re: 066 tuning

adjusted the metering valve , but still wont idle yet .It still seems as if its getting heaps of fuel as the exhaust is still wet and also plenty of fuel comes out of the carb air intake . The diaphragm on the metering valve is ok but it gets wet ontop of this with fuel is this normal ?
Will take it down to the local shop and get the guys to checck it out .
