I just put a repair kit in the carburetor of my 034. I had the carburetor in a can of carburetor cleaner for overnight, washed with hot soapy water, then rinsed it with hot water. I then took it out to my shop, and with compressed air, blew it all over to make sure that everything was clear, prior to reassemble. Everything was good and clean. I took my chain saw out side, once I had the carburetor installed and I tried to get it to start. I almost pulled the starter rope, until I was blue in the face, and not even an offer to start. I tested the spark with my spark tester, and it is good and strong. I checked to make sure that the fuel tank had fuel, and it was full. I checked the high, and low idle screws, and adjusted them from lightly seated, 1 full turn each. What am I missing? Your help, and input will be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Bruce.

Try taking the spark plug out and give it a shot of either put the plug back in. It sounds like you have a little water in the the jug from washing the carb out in water. If that still don't work pull the plug and blow the cylinder out with air and then try some more either and if it still don't run check the carb linkage mabe its not connected quite right. Hope thats works for you.

I removed the carburetor again, and I pulled the bottom plate off. It was full of fuel. I then took the top plate off, and the same thing. I adjusted the metering lever, put the carburetor back together again, and I put it on the chain saw. I then took it out side, trying to start it again, and still nothing. I had the air filter off, held the throttle wide open, and I could feel air, blowing out of the carburetor. I looked in the throat of the carburetor, and there was a mist of looked like smoke coming out of it. I'll get this thing figured out. I don't like the idea of spraying either in the spark plug hole, could wreck the motor. I seen a guy do that with dirt bike, and the crank shaft was sitting on the floor, out the bottom of the motor. I'll keep you informed to what is going on, and what I get figured out. Thanks. Bruce.

Bruce, Check the timing. Sometimes the keyway can be set in a couple of different places. Dont know if that saw has a brake, but sometimes if a brake hits hard the key will shear. With fuel in the case, you should have had something. Best wishes, Bob |

Update on this 034. Yesterday, after tasking the carburetor apart three times, I decided to com pair the old kit, to the new one. I put in the old metering lever, say how it operated, and did the same with the new metering lever. I discovered the the new metering lever, was bent at the forks, and wouldn't allow the metering needle, to seat properly, causing the chain saw to flood. I also had taken the flywheel off, to check the key, key way in the flywheel, and the crank shaft, and they checked out OK. Today I tried to start the chain saw, and with having the filter cap, and the top shroud off, I noticed that the in pulse line had a crack in it, so I have to get a new one. Since I'm going to have it tore down that far, I figure that I should put in a new fuel line, and intake boot. Then I shouldn't have any more troubles, with this chain saw. I'll keep everyone updated on the progress, with this chain saw. Thanks to everyone, for the input. Bruce

OK here is another update on this chain saw. I had taken the chain saw apart, so I could get at the fuel line, the in pulse line, and the intake boot, without too much trouble. I turned the flywheel by hand, and I could hear air comeing out of the intake, of the cylinder. I pulled the cylinder, to inspect the rings, and the cylinder. The cylinder was fine, so I inspected the rings. On the exhaust side of the piston, the rings were worn almost flush with the piston, and they were also stuck in the groves of the piston. I took the piston,to the dealer, to make sure I got the right ring kit (three different ring kits for the 034). At the dealers, the parts manual called for three different sizes, so we used a dial caliper to measure the piston, to determine which one we needed. That is where we noticed that the cylinder was worn a quite a bit, on the exhaust side of the piston, and it was a lot thinner on that side as well. I picked up a new piston, and ring kit, put the chain saw all back together again, now have to see if I can get it started, and see if it will run or not. Before I put the chain saw all back together, I flushed out the fuel tank, because whom ever had this chain saw before me, had a lot of fine sawdust inside the tank. That is why the carburetor was full of fine sawdust, so that is now taken care off, and remedied. I'll let you know how things turn out. Bruce.

It has been a while, since I posted on this thread, to update on this 034. Putting in the new piston, did the trick. This chain saw runs really nice now, had lots of power, for it's size, even better with the muffler modified. Thanks again for all the help, and advice. Bruce.

Welcome to Tree World. This is a pretty good web site, like I mentioned to you the other day. Have fun here, as I've had a lot of fun here. Take care. Bruce.

Glad to hear you got the 034 going, you never know what you are getting second hand.I just picked up a low hour 034AV and see you opened up the muffler on yours.I was looking at mine and the exhaust port on my muffler looks to be quite large and no room to make bigger as compared to an 026's.Are the gains that much to warrant a second port on one.I want more power but I also want it to look stock.

Here is a couple videos, of my 034, one before the modification, and one after. I took the base gasket out just recently, have a 0.021" squish, and I'll make another video, of it, then I'm planning on porting the cylinder, and I'll post a video of it was well, once I'm finished with the porting. Bruce.
