Hey Guys, Recently visited the field days in hamilton nz and met up with a company that uses wood chip as a power source... Many New Zealand schools have begun to remove their coal and waste oil boilers and replace them with wood chip boilers. Is estimated that it will require 50m3 of chip to run a school all year..... Talked to him about his chipper, a german variety called heizohack HEIZOMAT - 25 Jahre Energie im Kreislauf der Natur, Hackschnitzelheizung, Biomassefeuerungen, Holzfeuerungsanlagen, Holzhacker, Heizsysteme , uses a similar system to a convential system but incorperates a screen to make the chip a uniform size, very expensive chippers for their application... normal chippers could be modified for use perhaps?? anyone have anything to do with the system? |

I hadn't heard of it before, but it seems to be a great idea. I wish someone here would start using them, there's more woodchips in Sydney than you can poke a stick at, it's getting hard to get rid of them. |

i live in indiana,u.s.a lots of people i know have the outdoor wood boilers and they burn the wood chips for heat instead of cutting wood. you might have to fill up the boiler twice a day but most people will give you thr wood chips for free...lot easier than going cutting a bunch of firewood. |

There is a large formica company near me that last year let us dump chips for free to supply their boiler which ran their plant. It was so convenient but then nearby their was a huge clearing project for Wallmart. They dumped so much chip that it couldn't be kept up with and a couple of internal fires started. The fire dept. freaked and banned it and ruined it for all of us. Treeman's luck strikes again. |

I was wondering what is the Air Quality comming out from the stacks of one of these wood Boilers? Are they required to get Emission Air Permits from the State or Local Air Quality Authority? Sounds like a good idea for recycling a "waste" product but if the Air quality is compromised for everyone else then It may not be a such a good idea.' |

Hi Guys, most of the boilers on the market are made for the european consumer, they have strick emision laws and are part of the kyoto protyicol in many cases, the european standards are much stricker than any australiasian or american standards as far as I knoy so there is no problem for use in other countries. |
