G'Day RM TREE, Nice setup mate. I couldn't see from the pic's, but is your timberwolf the one with the 4 way head or the horizontal box type splitter? Whats your cycle time on that puppy? Cheers |

How do you like your skidding grapple? Have you ever used it for dragging brush out to the chipper? And did you buy it from Bailey's? |

hey thanks guys!! ya I love the tw5 it has the 4 way on it with 25ton with a 10 sec cycle time! with the wood right next to ya you can do a face cord in about 15 min. Lots of good hardwood around here cut tons of red oak and ash. The grapple works great for moving brush but due to the size of my tractor and AG tires i cant take it to many jobs. I got it a woodman show a few years ago for $1800 when the guy said the price i couldnt pay fast enought |

Hey sorry it took so long for me to get back to ya ben pushing a lot of the cold white stuff around with the truck. I hardly ever take the 4 way off unless its a big pice of hard wood with a knot in it. Its got a 12 hp honda on with with i think a 22gmp 2 stage pump |

Hey RMTREE, We also have the tw5 w all accessories and are very happy with it. We also have the 6 way and get a lot of use from it as we try to save prime wood in the approx size that is compatible w it. Really like your platform set up as we always get buried in refuse and have to boom the splitter out w the crane. We split into a 5x8 foot bin w one slanted side at the end and welded loops on all four corners. We heap split wood into the bin and hook 4 -12 foot chokers on with 2 of them having removable connections. We then boom the filled bin into a pile or a dump trailer or truck (l cord) or into a pile to store. We disconnect the two loops away from the slanted side before booming up and all the wood dumps out. I ve been leaning to buying a conveyer. How do you like it? Was it a good investment in your opinion? Is there any negatives? Cost maybe? Heard some people convert farm conveyers but I ve been unable to find one. Besides selling wood I heat my house with a furnace addon into the ducts with a humidifier. I am deeply in love with it. Your operation looks great.

No pics, but I did spend the last 4 days splitting rounds. Combination of Oak, Pine, Elm, Cottonwood, Willow and Euc. Ended up with about 11 cords. Sold 4 already. I'm actually rather sick of splitting by now. Lookin forward to getting back *in* a tree instead of workin with the leftovers. Ugh. Oh yeah, no pics on here, but got em on my phone. Hah! if you've got a cell phone in the US I can send em to ya As though anyone will take me up on it.Mmm, forgot to mention, it's just a 5.5 HP Troy-bilt splitter. When in the vert position, I wish the plate at the bottom was a bit larger. Kept getting large rounds with unions that wouldn't allow it to come into contact with the plate, resulting in pushing the splitter off the ground. It's kinda annoying. If it were mine I'd weld a larger plate to it, but I just returned it to the owner today. Oh well. |

Hey Treevet The conveyor is the best piece of equipment i have bought so far!!! I tried to pay a guy to stand at the end of the splitter and throw it in to a pile but after a few hrs well you know they get a little tired. And the best part is the conveyor cant talk back or b*tch like employee's I bought it as a demo it had one show on it and i got it for 5200 witch is cheap for the unit.. any pics of your setup?

William Greene, cannot let day go by without saying that is a gorgeous set up. Does all wood have to fall within that dia range or is that just the easiest to process. You must do land clearing?

thanks for the reply's ![]() i have been buying loads of tree length wood since '73 in today's market its getting a lot harder to find wood the diameter spec's are for good production & reasonable end produced product.smaller stuff better off done by hand. i bought this set-up in 1986 brand new & have had very little trouble. i think there is NO BIG SMOKE TO BE HAD. the wood market here in new england is in turmoil.the last of the NH pulp mills is laying off people, and the one up the street from that just got tore down.the wood business just aint what it used to be. |

well today i finally got back to normal. i found me a new supplier and he brought me in 125 cords of tree lenght red oak and 36 cords of mixed hardwood. nice little pile you can see from the street when you drive bye. i keep the truck loaded with mixed hardwood. its the cheapest $525.00 for 2 cord load local. $600.00 for the red oak. the price for wood here delivered has gone up $100.00 per cord oak since spring.the only reason i got it is because sappi fine paper (pulp mill) don't want,so they sold it to me. mixed hardwood gone up $60.00 since spring (that's what they want) don't make sense as always...... ![]() good little stash of wood to have,i sleep better knowing i won't miss out ![]() the truck is unloading mixed hardwood.the other end is all oak. what are you other guy's gettin' for wood in your area? |

I sold 4 cords of mixed good hardwoods last week for a thousand bucks. Wish I could get a load of logs like that. You gonna sell all that wood this year? You burn yourself?

That's a bloody lot of wood there William! You have to cut and split it yet? Do any of you firewood guys check the moisture levels? I hear EPA says it has to be under a certain % to be burnable or something.

Yeah I think that moisture percent may relate to creasote formation that will gum up your chimney and consequently cause chimney fires. I once was way up in a tree in the woods when the HO's chimney started erupting like a volcano. Came down and shut down all the air intake and it slowly subsided. It sounded like a locomotive, she was scared to death. Lots of houses get burned to the ground this way. Esp the old victorians back when wood burning peaked in the late 70's. This year wood should be real popular bcs of heating oil prices. A lot of people advocate selling by the weight like Quintrex does but, again, is this a useful measurement when it is heavy because it is green wood and full of h20? I have found wood that is not too dense that is split will dry in 3 months and not cause creasote if burnt in a reasonable way and I "cook" out the chimney once a day. This is woodstove use and I think a fireplace likely cooks it out by nature as it is not dampened out at all. Wouldn't go any less than a couple of months in hot dry weather for seasoning though. Wonder if the term season refers to a season or most people like to hear a year for drying time. I could search this stuff but I'm too lazy right now and have to go to work. Do you plan to sell that wood this year William? |

PS Eric, love the banner in your post. Is that a white rot? Also isn't decompaction aeriation as well (and vice versa)? Just defining the term by repeating it? If that is the case it is not redundant IMO. |

You can aerate a bog cant you? But bogs aren't compacted.

I just bought a 24 foot hydraulic conveyor to go with my Timberwolf TW 5. I am real excited to see how much easier this makes my "firewood set up". Wood is selling real early here. It should be a good year for it with the cost of heating oil. I'll get some pictures together next week after picking it up and setting it. It is the one in a post earlier in the thread RMTree's.
