It's about in the middle of many firewood btu charts on the web. But I've been enjoying cottonwood firewood most of a cold Saskatchewan winter, which is near the bottom of the chart. So any firewood if split and dryed is good firewood.

I had a chance to bring a little home this summer and got to burnen it just recently. Burns hot and last fairly long. If you have easy access I would go for it.

Input from the UK, well i love it myself. Easy to split, usually quite thin bark which falls off when really dry, light and easy to handle. It ignites well too.
Do find it burns a bit quick but i just adjust the draw on my fire to slow it down. I am talking about Psuedoplatanus, False Acer here, but if i can get my hands on any other Acer it is usually much more dense and lasts longer.

Cheers all.

Here is more info on (Sycamore) American. We in the UK call them Plane trees or London Plane,s, Latin PLATINUS OCCIDENTALIS. Now this is an excellent timber to burn and i love it but only aquire it very occasionally.

Cheers again.
