Default Cubic m vs tonnes

How many cubic metres is in a tonne of split and seasoned redgum firewood. I mean not a stacked cubic metre but a thrown in or loose cubic metre.

I would say around 2m3 of tossed firewood (dried redgum) = 1 tonne

Why, because it is known that tossed has to be 50% more by volume than stacked for equal weight.

Dried weight of redgum is around 900kg/m3, so for a solid block of red gum with no spaces you'd need 1.1m3 to = 1 tonne

Now worse than stacked you got tossed, and that's a lot worse than a solid block. So working 1.1m3 x 150% = 1.65m3 but no allowance has been made for the difference between stacked and solid. And I reckon another 20% more is about right if not a little shy of the real answer.

So there's my reasoning.

Thanks Ekka,
you never cease to amaze me with your breadth of knowledge across all areas of tree work; and I'm not taking the piss, I'm serious.

Logical reasoning too! Cheers.

Every stack can be different though. I used the American cord for this but it depends on the length and size too apparently.

However some sites say that if a 1m3 bin was stacked versus tossed there'd be around 25% to 40% difference (not 50% like the USA cord), apparently shape of the box matters too and the USA cord is large, 1 cord = 3.54 m3

So don't hold me as dead accurate on this one, in reality you'd have to weigh it and it would also depend on what type of tosser you are.
