Default Chainsaw Carving Boot Camp?

I got this email from Baileys today. Seems expensive to me, I would rather buy a new saw and figure it out myself.

Chainsaws, Outdoor Power Equipment and Tree Care Supplies from Bailey's

That's a lot of $'s ....

...... personally I'd say practice makes perfect, maybe watch a pro for a bit and have a go yourself.

Wow, not cheap but there's plenty of bored baby boomers out there with lots of cash, [I'm not one] they'll pay up.

They run around here in new Range Rovers mowing grass just for something to do.

Not so many of those bored rich boomers here any more. I used to own a Range Rover myself when I lived in California. Though I seariously off-roaded it with a group of Land Rover friends (rock crawling, mudding, hill climbing), and I drove it to Lake Tahoe (high Sierras) in the ice and snow every winter.

Seems like you learn how to chainsaw carve in YouTube. There are enough videos online. Maybe step up and buy a DVD if you got serious about it. God knows there are enough dinky chainsaws carving bars for sale on Ebay and at the saw shops, and here at least there are chainsaw carving festivals and fairs in the summer.

I just returned from the Bootcamp and those who came had a great time. Mostly they were first-time carvers who wanted a helping hand. But one guy who came all the way from NY to California was an experienced ice carver and he did a relief carving of swimming fish in his own time and sold it to another student for $300, almost making back his days tuition.
There was a 72-year-woman there who was a logger, but had never carved. After two days with Steve Backus she had a beautiful salmon and a big bear. Really cool.

I have been filming chainsaw carving for over ten years and the experience and camaraderie these students got in two days of hanging with the pros was a priceless experience for them.

Thought i'd throw in my attempts at chainsaw carving: A bear sitting on a log holding a Bundy rum bottle.(only he not shown with a bottle) (Bundy bear, Aussies will know!)
and my coffee table/remote control holder, from a stump cutoff with wrought iron handles so 3 blokes can carry the thing!

Excellent carving ntheap. Did you just pick it up or someone show you how to do it?
I like the table. It is beautiful but I dont think I would like to keep shifting it until the wife says it is in the right spot though.
Great work
