That's bloody amazing! Mind you, i will be even more convinced when i see the inventor test it by running his fingers into it. ![]()

The Sawstop has been credited with saving a few digits. What would it be like to see that sensor attached to a chipper? All it would have to do would be to stop the infeed hydraulics and reverse them. |

| This is a good idea. Ever since the BC chipper accident in 2005, we've been talking about this. They tried adopting the mandatory bottom bump bar here, but the specifications were so specific as to give Vermeer a patent strangle hold. Hmm, wonder how they ended up talking to WorkSafeBC in the first place. Electronic tagging is used in lumber and food processing, can't see it costing that much extra either. A sensor unit and a simple aluminum tag in the gloves is all that's needed.

How do you plan on stopping the inertia of a 40+ inch diameter wheel, OR will it just stop the feed rollers? What about the old chuck and ducks? Not ALL tree companies can afford new equipment. The employees may NOT be taught to respect the machinery. I have NEVER seen a goof-proof machine YET! I doubt that you can legislate people from making stupid choices. |

| Agreed, but if they are going to mandate a roller stop safety feature, I want something else besides the bottom bar. The chuck n' ducks were exempt anyway. The basic idea behind tagging would be to immediately stop the rollers as soon as the tag was detected within the hopper area. This would be well before the feed rollers. A perfect solution, there isn't one, but for new machines it's a better option IMVHO.

What about some sort of infra-red beam that detects the heat from a human arm? or, the operator has to wear a special bracelet that can be detected near the feed rollers?

thats a good idea,Then also add a disc brake to the rotor shaft and you pretty much go it covered, If it saves lives...dont hola about the cost to me! ![]() You would want the sensor before the rollers, That way it would teach you not to put your hand in there
