Default YouTube's getting banned and sued!

Lets see, Turkey, Brazil, Victoria Australia ... where next?

http://www.cnn.com/2007/WORLD/asiapc...?eref=rss_tech

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/eat-th...-_e_38136.html

but then unbanned in Brazil moments later http://www.cbc.ca/news/story/2007/01...ml#skip300x250

Here's some cases where it's breached copyright and getting sued.

And what some are doing is getting a subpoena against Youtube to reveal the identities of the persons uploading material then suing them.

But it appears some of the large music makers are working with YouTube for a fair deal and gonna let off the amatuer video makers using their music for their videos in return for some advertising revenue.

That YouTube chose to turn over the data, rather than simply remove the offending video from its site -- as it did Friday when it agreed to take down 30,000 videos at the request of a group of Japanese media companies -- came as a surprise to copyright experts.
So the heat is on, copyrighted material, defamation, breaking laws of countries like insulting Turks etc. The pulling of 30,000 Japanese videos means something too.

I read on many places I visited that adding music to your video clips is small fry and chances are no-ones going to persue it ... however that depends on the content of the video too I bet and if you're making money out of it.

One thing that's very evident on YouTube and Myspace, the moderater activity is minimal.

Myspcace is probably far worse.

I originally started a profile on myspace, as the only means to contact someone to quit hot linking to my images.

When I tried to eliminate it, nobody from the site responded at all, to change my email so I could access the options to quit. So I added some Oregon photos so it looks good.

But the content is out of control in large portions of the site.

Default $1billion lawsuit against Google and YouTube

Hot off the press Viacom slams Google and YouTube with $1billion lawsuit.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/17593962/

http://www.itwire.com.au/content/view/10425/1103/

From http://www.viacom.com/view_release.j...leaseID=227614

Quote:
NEW YORK, March 13, 2007 – Viacom Inc. (NYSE: VIA and VIA.B) today announced that it has sued YouTube and Google in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York for massive intentional copyright infringement of Viacom’s entertainment properties. The suit seeks more than $1 billion in damages, as well as an injunction prohibiting Google and YouTube from further copyright infringement. The complaint contends that almost 160,000 unauthorized clips of Viacom’s programming have been available on YouTube and that these clips had been viewed more than 1.5 billion times.
Interesting, their defense has for sometime been that they make the user or member responsible for copyright. The onus is on the video maker or person who loads it up. There's a standard way of getting the video removed but at the end of the day they are the broadcaster of copyrighted content and will be getting hammered for it.

This is a good case to watch coz it's all about what the internet has become. It's just so easy to copy something, a pic, video, text, documents etc. Did you know even posting links to stuff could be seen as a breach of copyright? Also, say you see a video, copy it and host it yourself exactly as you found it with full credits etc to the owner it is still wrong to do that.

Might be good to see how these giants battle it out and what happens. I can see a boom of recognition software and possible internet registration of works to protect lawful owners. Something will change here for sure.

The part about being the broadcaster does make sense.

It's not the website of the various users.

I've only had my account phished once, my fault, had a simple password.

I've met 3 of my last girlfriends on myspace. lol. I wonder if that shows that it doesn't work. I started my account back when there were only about 3 million users. Now there are 217,340,153. It wasn't even a fad back when I started, now its just plain crazy.

I kinda like it though I suppose. It makes staying in touch with people really easy. Lets you see people's current photos and what they're up to, how they're feeling, what their mood is... whether their sister looks cute enough to PM or not... hehe
