Things here in the states are scarey. While trying to be a good citizen and help controling the construction industry. The little ankle biters are here leaving fines for trashpiles put out on the wrong day.

I will be back later

You all be safe!

I'm here finally! It goes good, bad and ugly....

I lost my dad back in Oct and as executor had to deal with the estate issues. No lottery win that's for sure! The work wound down in Toronto so I can down to visit my wife in New Jersey and have some down time.

Closing in on having the immigration process closer to completion. Hoping to have the interview soon.

And now I have to surrender the computer to my loving wife... who'll kill me if I don't......

Great read all, I dont miss much and some great pics for sure.

Now, this is no bull shit right. I just happen to be driving around and WHAMMO a billboard with a scotch advertisement.

It really caught my eye so I snapped a pic coz I think it wont be long before some "do gooders" have whinge about it and try to get it banned or something.

Cop a load of this, get it, might take a second for the penny to drop.

Ace Master how did you get started in tree work?
Ekka
Well ,i was born into it ,my great grandfather was a faller thats a long long time ago guess its in my genes. My Father work as a groundie for a local tree lopper at the time he was 17.Then he started the climbing side of things,in 1970 he started his own business(ace tree removals).I was born 3 years later and on weekends and school holiday i was shown the ropes. When i was 12 i could use a chainsaw, drive bobcats,trucks,cars,ewp..etc can't do that these day if your 12 thats a no no.In 1997 i finished my Arborist course, 1 year after my dad ended this climbing career, you can see he's 40 year old climbing gear on show ya saddle thread (thats old school) it was all hand made by a blacksmith.I have had a go of that gear, hard work.By the end of 1997 the business had grow to over 64 employees, then hard times came along, so we looked for other work which lead to the start of ace energy services (public street lighting). Now my younger brother and dad run this and it has grown to be Victoria wide, but i still enjoy the tree side of things, now i have 15 men under me and we are growing again, hot off the press, we have just purchase a new 60m (200ft) travel tower from overseas and it will be here in late June 2008.So you can see why it takes so long for me to reply busy, busy. My wife thinks am a workaholic but i still have that passion for tree work and love to be apart of this Tree World site, well done Eric ,never thought i would be talking to people from around the world about trees. This is all i have ever done and know, but you still learn new things everyday.

Well I guess I should actually say something here. 10 pages of posts to a thread with my nickname in the title and I have yet to respond. Seems a bit shy of me. Well, here goes.

I sit at a desk most of the day dreaming that I was outside doing tree work. I work for a company where my dad is the GM, and I am the operations Manager. The job is almost certainly mine when he retires, which will be in a few years. We work great together and have a great relationship. I am struggling with the feelings that I don't want to sit in an office for the rest of my career. I am an outdoors person, and little over a year ago I discovered tree work. It incorporates my loves of climbing, outdoors, and power tools (don't give me lectures of safety here, b/c my #1 promise to my wife and son are safety first). If I decide to leave now and do tree work (I'm 31, feel like 21) then that messes up my dad's exit strategy and may force him not to retire when he wants to.

So here I sit reading your posts and soaking in as much info as possible about every aspect of tree work. Wishing I was out there with you guys and able to share my experiences as well. I am sharing my weekends with my wife of 9 years and my 21mo old son Blake, and my desire to get up in a tree.

I have quoted my first "official" job for our church. It's a 2k job that is going to test everything that I have learned so far and add a few elements as well. Most of what I have been doing so far has been for friends or acquaintances and trying to pay for some of the equipment. I do make pretty good money, and my wife works (which I've always told her that she doesn't have to) so I can buy a lot of the small type of equipment without much trouble. But there is a lot more to life than earning money. I want to do something that will provide for my family and where I am doing something I enjoy. I've told my wife since we got married that if I could figure out how to make a living and climb, I should do it.

That's the long a short of it. Things are going well here. We're a little low on the rain gauge, but all in all not to bad. I'm pulling for a presidential candidate that is a long shot, but he has morals that I agree with, and I'm not willing to vote for change for the sake of change, especially when it's not realistic.

My son is running around the house putting smiles on his parents faces and learning more than can be imagined by a kid that isn't even 2yrs old. He woke up from his nap on Sat. saying "daddy chainsaw, daddy chainsaw" b/c he could here me outside working on my saws. We bought him the little chainsaw and helmet from Bailey's and he loves it!

Ekka, thanks for the thread, but I don't buy lottery tickets, and my favorite drink is Dr. Pepper.

Keep up the good work guys, I'll try to be less of a leach!!

So she works nights while I stay here, can be a hand full with homework, dinner, baths and this forum. LOL

These are the things we dont talk about though. Dont know why, maybe a man thing, but it's good to see the human side.

Anyway, I'm extremely happy to see such a diverse and sensible community on line. We have very good people here ... not because I booted the bad but because of the way we all conduct ourselves. You would feel so bad to come in and mess the place up with stupid stuff, because it's just not like that here.

It can be difficult (is for me) not to challenge an opinion, some-one might want to save trees whilst others get paid for felling them etc. Such is life, it's never all one way. Tolerance is a tough task at times. And if you are challenged don't try to take it personally, see, if I were a lawyer in court and you were trying to argue about the value of a tree to me I would pull out 15 different valuations and show the judge and jury what a cowboy industry you are in. I would do that, and that's how I think, and that is what happens unless you have a dumb lawyer. So you can retaliate by calling me names or by seeing the flaws and addressing them so the industries credibility is raised. Insurance companies work on market value for cars etc, they sing from a common hymn sheet, but we do not.

Behind the scenes we are looking at taking a few big steps this year. I wont let the cat out of the bag but can say Tree World and it's members is simply not getting the respect it rightfully deserves so some work will happen in that area as well as getting some loyal sponsors and deals for members.

Anyway, good to read you all, and the thread has taken off big time, and you're all safe and happy.

What do you think Ericlav27. Are you happy with the way the place is run? Suggest any changes?

I think you are doing a great job!!!!!!

All the guys have posted a lot of great info that I for one enjoy reading to help better my on the job practices and cautions.

Keep up the good work!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey there Ekka,
Thanks for the warm welcome. I have been really busy with work and haven't spent any time checking out the Tree World Web site. I really like the Logo with the tree and lightening.
I work in the Dallas Texas area and just wrapping up
Dormant Oil Coversprays and gearing up for spring ferts and pruning. I've been in the trees since 1977 and wouldn't trade this work for any other as it keeps me physically fit and energetic.
Hope all is well with your and yours,
Euc_man

Doing okay guys. Sorry to hear about your Dad a Lopa. Our prayers are with you.
Ekka like clementine says, spend as much time with those kids as you can. You'll appreciate all the sacrifices one day. In fact that what life bowls down to.
Hope things work out for you clementine.

Hi Ekka thanks for the thread, its been smashing over here for the last few days.

I can remember my oldest girls first day at school it brings a lump to your troat for sure, my youngest is suppost to be starting in the auturm but not sure, as she had a bone marrow transplant in the summer and is a bit behind on some things we shall see after this coming summer.

I found tree world while i was with Eva (my little one) having her chemo and it was the only way i could get close to some trees!!!!

Cheers

We are fine over here in Amsterdam. Our house in Portugal is being renovated at the moment. We have to leave the trees at the mercy of nature for now.
To compensate, I grow some trees in pots inside the house. A little olive, "Johannesbroodboom" (Ceratonia siliqua), and several eucalyptus trees. In the Algarve I see these last trees being chopped as they are considered a pest and a danger.

Ekka, Thanks for the E-Mail reminding me to be part of the action. The weather here in Georgia U.S.A. " No Rain forever " We are at an all time water low in this part of the country. One of our major lakes is 26 feet down. It's estimated that with normal ( What ever that is ) rainfall,it will take ten years to get back to the basic levels. All of the surrounding States are fighting for water with us. I now have ten Grandchildren ( 21 years down to 4 months ) three Grand boys and the rest are Grand girls. Keeps me young and crazy and I have to get away somedays so I find a good tree to climb. I will become a retired person for the third time this April. My offical title is "Triple Dipper", That means I am on a fixed $ retirement income from three different areas. Life is good and I'm still young and healthy. Thank you lord for all my blessing!! Hey ekka, thanks for the thread. Things are going well down in florida. I have been working as a private consultant part time for a home building company designing their trusses for all their new homes but home building in florida is so slow right now. The other half of my time Im doing tree work and its taking off, but i dont really advertise yet. just word of mouth and the logos on my truck. Witch by the way my homeowners association now says I cant park it in my drive way or in their community at all, and it doesnt fit in the garage. I have a bunch of brazilian pepper trees that have taken over my back yard so i made a clearing so i could see the lake in the back. But i haven't hauled the brush away yet. As soon as i did this of course the association made a stink. they hired browns tree services to come out and give a quote to the sum of $400 to bill me if I dont have it removed. I think they should hire vector tree to haul it, I think that guy would do it for half the price. The h.a. knows very well i own a tree service, they just harass me. take care Chris..........

Lots of $ out of pocket. They were going to pay my ISA membership+my ohio chapter+$100 for passing their arborist test+foreman wages+$300 of my gear flew out of the truck when the gm went back to the shop to dump. Never was outfitted for gear which they promised. Used all my gear. They said they recomend removals 1% of the time. 45 removals in one month. I felt like a an urban logger. Driving 45min. to work sucked to. lots of promises and NONE happend. Hope that shop drowns. It was probably the same salesman from the 70's.

Hi all

What a fantastic post - and started in my name. WOW

Since the post is started in my name I'd better join in:

My name is Niels Ejnar Petersen 42 years old and living i Denmark with my wife Margrethe (same name as our Queen) and our 3 kids, Mikkel (boy) 18, Frederikke (girl) 16 and Sophie (girl) 13.

I'm a forester and teach forestry at a school Dansk Center for Jordbrugsuddannelse.
In my spare time I'm a Chainsaw Carver.

On the 23. February I'm going to Ridgway Pennsylvania for the biggest Chainsaw Carving event in the world: 9th annual Ridgway Chainsaw Carvers Rendezvous www.chainsawrendezvous.org Can hardly wait.

In Denmark it should be winter now but temperature is almost spring like.

Ekka - my favorite drink is beer or my homemade walnut flavored "snaps".

Here is a picture of my family.
