| ![]() Hi Ekka: Thanks for the Welcome. I live in the Southeast. South Carolina near the Georgia border where they hold the Masters tournement [Augusta, GA] . I retired in 1998 and migrated down from Michigan where I lived until then. The one thing I can say is that is really HOT . In the summer is is almost always in the ninties. We have had a run in the humdreds lately. I have no idea where this site originates from. Although I have read some threads from Australia. I look forward to reading and writing in this forum. I'm going good, and happy as..all my daffodils that I spent nearly a whole day planting out have popped up, yayy! I do have a green thumb after all. Just bringing my warmblood back into work slowly after his bad stone bruise and working my arab hard as ready for a big endurance ride coming up soon. And I thinks my 2 lovely poinciana trees are going to make it through the winter! they're looking pretty good and still have leaves, I thought the frosts might knock them down dead, but so far so good. |

I know I know I have not been online and have not checked this forum in a long time. I am finally posting to it and hope I can learn a lot through this forum. I have been cutting a lot of trees and grinding a lot of stumps. I keep pretty busy and I also work 3 other jobs and am starting up my own web design company as well. I try to find free time to stay on top of everything, but it seems like there is just not enough time in one day to get things done that need to get done. Sometimes I wish days were longer so I could get it all done, but what is not done today will get done the next day and so on. |

After a quiet week (3 days work) -I am looking forward to a trip over to Dublin this coming week to catch up with some friends and enjoy a few pints of Guinness at the brewery. Had a good day out today collecting wild berries on the side of Craiglockhart Hill in Edinburgh. |

All goes well with my project the National Register of Big Trees. Over 420 trees on the Register now. Have some issue trying to decide what trees are multi-stem trees. Measuring butressed trees is also something I have to address.

I'm doing really good by staying inside this arvo as my eyes are stinging from the cold August winds and my hands were frozen as I forgot to take gloves when I took my warmblood out for a spin this morning. A neighbour that I joined up with said it was snowing on the Barringtons but I haven't listened to the weather. The fires are blazing now, chickens in the slow cooker and smells good, and I'm warm at last. ![]() The wind is howling around the house, but the house is warm as toast..I might go pour a nice glass of red. (for medicinal purposes.) |

*Therrin makes a strange face, his mouth open as far as it will go, as though in the middle of a silent scream which is never ending* *then he runs around in circles, like the energizer bunny, and doesn't stop* |

10 posts and 4 days to get past it, both criteria must be fulfilled so a low posting lurker still gets it. ![]() And a high posting troll/spammer still has to wait.

It all goes well for a long time reader, first time subscriber Ekka. I've learned a lot just by browsing some posts already. Looking at entering THE industry here in the sunny Gippsland so am basically loading up on info. Got a few tickets ie Xcut, Intermed. Felling, Climbing cse, EWP, Truck and also own a Lucas mill ( nice hobby) etc but I don't want to change industry and have to start at the bottom on $18 an hour I could't bear the thought... @Ekka How's business in Bris-vegas?

| Generally slow, too many tree companies and door knockers. For me though, great, as I do more than tree work like consulting.

Hi Ekka. Thanks for the warm welcome. And yeah...you were miles ahead of me. I have been browsing the site..just getting the feel of how it all works. Thats how I stumbled on your message. I have recently moved into my house in Millstream which is just on the dry side of the range near Ravenshoe on the Atherton tablelands.. Atherton is about 60 kms from here. So I am out of the rainforest country on well drained basalt soils. Mostly eucalypts here, but previous owners have planted some rainforest trees which seem to be doing quite well. I have some trees which I cannot identify and some which are currently giving me grief with roots etc. I will be posting some pics for identification in the future and would like any assistance with the invasive roots problem...other than removing the tree if possible. All ideas welcome. The problem trees seem to be A red Cedar, a white Cedar(not really sure if thats what it is yet) and possibly some paperbarks. Anyway, I will post more specific details later. Thanks again for the warm welcome and I look forward to getting to know others with a shared interest in trees on here. |

White cedar around these parts is usually Melia azederach, have a look at some of the pics and compare.

hi Ekka, sorry to take so long to reply, still working out how to steer this computer. think i am better suited to the great outdoors ! kids ? i have 17 yo son and 9 yo daughter, so sad but still remember both their first days at school, so cute but far out time flies.im not even 35 yet but they sure make you feel old. heap of rain here which slows you down a bit, funny when you first start getting bogged but bit over now.haha. flat out at trying to clear patch of coastal wattle, loads of chipping. other half is worried i will end up with muscles to match the guys at work, but im loving it honestly.normally a gardener, its great to change jobs for a while. boyfriend is currently doing hort/arboriculture cert 3 i think its called through his work, interesting stuff. starting to learn to climb properly so hes loving that. great site.. hopefully will learn to get photos from my phone to the computer..might have to admit failure and ask one of the kids to do it for me ! |

Going great, I've spent a year in Darwin....going back to Victoria to where the trees are bigger than matchsticks. Looking forward to getting back on the land. I am going to treat myself to a new saw. Just a matter of choosing one and avoiding paying over the top. I'm trying to pick between MS362, Echo CS-600P and a 460 Rancher. Interesting the MS361 is still listed for $1399 AUSD, I can't find the Echo in Oz at all and the Husky is $1099.
