A_LOPA, terribly sorry for your loss. Wishing you and the fam all the best. EKKA, cool How'd you do it? Wish it were raining back here...the country's in its worst dry spell (the El Nino phenomenon)....by now we should already have a healthy dose of rain but hardly any luck. Sporadic showers mostly. the heat and humidity is terrible too. Then again, be careful what you wish for they say. After El Nino, the weather guys are saying we'll be contending with another phenomenon, the La Nina (excessive rain, storms, floods, etc.). Sigh. Global warming sucks. On better news, I'm designing a house! Trying to build a green one at that, although sustainable standards are virtually zero in the country. I have to resort to books and tons of research. Exciting exciting exciting. |

Oh my goodness I'm sore.. I'm in PAIN! Just got back from what ended up being a 5 day backpacking / prospecting trip. Everything went well, found quite a bit of microgold. Sending in some samples to have them assayed. Next time, goin back with a small scuba cylinder and some dive gear. The sinkhole is calling my naaaaaaame! Can hardly stand up though, I packed around 160lb of equipment in and out of there. Been walking around like the hunchback all day. |

I'm working on a new garden all around my fish pond, I've planted tree ferns and other types of ferns and have planted 100 daffodil bulbs around it, I'm over daffodil bulbs atm.

Hi Ekka ![]() Things are going really well, I'm off on holiday soon where I will swap the office desk for some serious felling and all things chainsaw related. Should be a great holiday haha. Great site/forum by the way - I'm still learning my way around but getting there.

Hired a contract climber for the first time on monday. Made a two day job into a one day job. Margins are much better! Paid him $35.00 per hour, but the job was done in five hours. Very much worth the money. |

Haha! The only thing damaged was my dignity! I was ascending a rope using a prussik and it pulled my beard in while I was advancing it. I don't think my groundie noticed... I've been thinking I'll have to wear something to keep my beard more out of the way while working up trees. Maybe some sort of kerchief. I'd never come across that story before. It's a strange one... Mind you, I'd be pretty annoyed if anyone cut my beard too!

Your mum never read you snow white and rose red? it's a different snow white and the dwarf is a bad tempered, ungrateful little germ. Anyway your beard sounds dangerous, maybe you do need to keep it out of the way, I know you are not supposed to have long hair (a beard could be counted in that?) around machinary or food, for different reasons of course. |

Looks like you're back to climbing Dov. Congrats. Maybe a beard only 6 Inches long would stay out of the prussik and still give you the effect you want?

I might cut the beard a bit when Summer comes, but right now I like to tuck it into my collar to keep the neck warm! It works it's way out while climbing, so I guess I'll have to wear a kerchief or something.

Too bad you're thinking of dropping the business - knowledgeable people are hard to come by. I would think a contract climber could probably fill your needs - as long as scheduling could be worked out. And for the beard, sorry, I forgot you are now in your winter season. |

It's so cold here now as well Dov, we had 3c today, I'm wearing a balaclava these mornings when working the horses, I have to be careful with it as one of my horses, my warmblood, freaks out when he sees it on me! so funny to watch him. My Arab hates my drizabone and chucks a skitza whenever I ride him in it, he settles after a bit. I wish I could grow a beard instead as the balaclava gets a bit itchy. ![]() Will the frost kill my tibouchina trees does anyone know? They're only little. |

The Tibouchina trees might be frost sensitive, as they are from a warmer climate. Check this out.

That's what I was worried about Dov. I planted 6 of them a month or so ago, maybe I should have waited. I've got old chaff sacks around them and mulched to death with sugar cane mulch, I don't know what else to do really. They're about 4ft high. I like your new avatar! |

I'm cold, but it was a beautiful day, -3c this morning, crisp, clear and sunny. A day that you know it's good to be alive. Yay! Your beard suits you Dov, maybe you could plait it to keep it out of the way, seen some bushie blokes do the same. |

| Thank you Julie. It would feel strange plaited I think. I like playing with it too much anyway. A lot of my Nepalese mates reckon I should wrap it string or something so it looks really skinny. Not sure why... I guess I'll find out when I finally get to Nepal.

You're going to Nepal Dov? Really interesting place to go. I've just read a book called Horse boy, about an autistic American child whose parents took him from Mongolia to Nepal to see some budhist monks who could help him, it worked. A true story. It describes the countryside there in great detail, sounds primitive but beautiful. |
