Haha CSL! I was a bit surprised when I first saw it too, I thought wow! I just signed up to ask something and someone is talking to me already?? ![]() Anyway I'm not all that happy because I went to clean my fishpond today and tried to catch the 2 baby goldfish so they'd be safe while I cleaned it. I couldn't catch them so thought to pull the plug out and I'd be able to catch them once the water drained away. But the goldfish flew down the plug hole quick as lightening, I was so shocked. I think the water just sucked them down, I didn't know that was going to happen but they're now in dirt heaven and I'll have to buy some more. I hope they didn't suffer. |

Aloha Ekka, Well I am all the way across the Sea on the Big Island of Hawaii, and Rain... well we could really use some if you wanted to send some our way....I am very concerned about my Eucalyptus trees, planted here by the kind Australian Man that built the House in 1983...some look fine and others look like they are dying, so I dont think its lack of H2O. it started with one tree and then its nextdoor neighbor and now the big boy down the hill abit. they are getting H20 (and small amount Fertilizer, didn't want to shock them). Nothing is working. This tree is aprox. 27 years old well established. sure hope you can help I do have Pic's... This started in March after the Bee's pollinated the trees, have you heard of Gull Wasps? I am hoping that someone out there can help me to figure out what the problem is so I can help these trees out ....before its to late. Thanks Aloha Jacquie Lee |

jleewood, Start a thread in the Ask an Arborist Section with pictures. My gut feeling is a fungal attack, many times insects are secondary pathogens. But in saying that severe outbreaks of scale can bowl a tree over too. We need to know type of eucs too, so gotta get strong ID's first, leaves, caps etc.

Just got back from two week trip in to the north west of Scotland. Had a great time exploring the gorgeous countryside and what trip to Scotland would be complete without a whisky distillery or two. Achmelvich beach was absolutely stunning (looks like Carribean waters only about 20 degrees colder!!) Isle of Skye was breathtaking, Visited my family castle on the Isle of Mull and could identify the facial features carrying through the gene pool. (Weird to travel all the way and see such familiar characteristics) Squeezed in four breweries, numerous castles and the list of places to visit just keeps on getting bigger and bigger. Looking forward to getting back into the saddle and making more money for the next trip. |

Hi Jeffswede, I know its not a painted eucalyptus, one of my favorites too. I think it may be a blue gum, just a guess, its really not well and needs help not lloking it best....it has a thick rough bark at the base and smooth reddish color on upward branch's that sheds in long strips and its lighter reddish/tan colored when bark has just fallen off. Leaf is about 3" long a med width to slender. seed are 1/4 " round small brown bell shape. your the Pro do you know? I hope so .....Aloha J.Lee |

Does not appear to be a Blue Gum by the description, sounds like it may be a Tristania,or Watergum, perhaps one of the recent cultivars, but that would be a guess with the pic clarity. I can't see the pics too well. Quote:
jleewood, try to take close-up shots of the trunk, foliage and where the trunk joins the ground. What is the soil type? Have you sprayed any chemicals recently? Anything else unusual lately regarding the micro climate around the tree? regards Julie

Jeff, its not that hard. If you click on the pic you can make it bigger, but not clearer. I think that's just the picture. ![]() Last edited by Jeff Darby; 22nd May 2010 at 04:01 AM. Reason: resize picture |

'sss I have a file with all the above Picture requests dont know how to resize it, (except that one anyway it was an accident)... unless I send an email ( It does it automaticaly)......So lets try this... Does any one have pictures or information on Eucalyptus Trees that have damage done by 1. These are two different species of Wasps Erythrina or Eurytoma Erythrinae sometimes called Gull Wasps? The first mentioned killed lots of our Native Hawaiian Wiliwili Trees. the second one was brought in by our Government as a natural predator to help controll the Erythrina Wasp (Pls dont be confused, the spelling is very much the same for these 2 Wasps.) 2. sometimes call "RLP" Redgum Lerp Psyllid this little critter killed lots of Eucalyptus Trees in California. 3.The Last one is the Longhorned Borer Phoracantha simipunctata. I am not trying to be a smarty Pants here....I am just trying to help my "Tree Family"....I have my fingers crossed that someone will shed some light on this, cuz I have Tree trimmers that are insisting that I need to use "Merit" a Poisen that goes into the ground/root system and cut everything back to Zip Zerro, Nothing ... sounds like Murder a Tree to Me.... Sueann-I'm not sure where you are in the Hunter Valley- (I worked on the construction of -not Liddel - the other one) - years ago but wonder if you are on acreage & if the old eucs you are talking about are on your property & if so whether you would allow recreational tree climbers access to them. A mate & I on the North Coast are always looking for some where different to climb. |

Hi Ratruder, no, I'm sorry but this is my home, I really don't want people I don't know coming here, I guess it's a privacy and a safety issue, for myself and my family, also if you were hurt on my property, you could possibly sue me. Contractors that work here off and on carry insurances to cover themselves for that sort of thing and their companies thoroughly checked out by my husband. We have had trouble here, in the past, with finding people camping without permission, stealing bushrock, raiding rosella nests, unknown dirtbike riders coming in from down the back, once we even had the cops with dogs here running everywhere, looking for a bloke that stole a car, led them on a high speed chase and crashed into a brick wall down the road aways and ran down through the back of our property. They didn't catch him and might still be down there somewhere for all I know!! ![]() I suppose you mean Eraring Power Station which is no where near us, down Dora Creek way. Please don't be offended, Australia is not short of trees, as far as I know, I don't suppose you would have trouble finding some to climb, but that is the way I feel. Cheers, |

Plenty of fishing too and again I missed an opportunity to go fly fishing for trout on the gorgeous rivers. The smoked Salmon from Inverary smokehouse was incredible though! Have got the International Rugby Seven's here in Edinburgh this weekend so looking forward to a day of fast, action-packed seven's rugby at Murrayfield stadium. ![]() ![]()

Hello Ekka I posted your request for info under one of Therrin's requests, mostly because I found his first. You have a number of interesting aspects on this forum. You must either be a really good programmer, or know one. They all give the site a comforting touch. Favourite drink? Tap water or good spring water, or orange juice. |

Busy as can be. Tree business is blockbuster. Good prices. Great equipment. Quick progression from trailerable 43' biljax articulating aerial lift to 65' JLG telescoping lift with 500 lbs payload plus 2 guys in the bucket. Working on access to an 85' lift with payload next. Been a classic guy from "axe" approach to chain saws to "throw line and backpull climb rope" to "cut and swing from adjacent tree" to "cut and pulley lower 400 lb blocks from lift". Hurricane season in Florida / Gulf of Mexico is expected to be phenomenally busy this year, 17 named storms, 4 Great Big ones hitting Florida. Extremely bad freeze in 50 years this winter has had 47 straight days of freezing and killed many trees that are still standing and gonna create huge work when the canes hit. Getting the quick process down with electronic tools (estimating, billing, charging credit cards in the field, etc).

| ...I'll play..But since I'm a moderator on a pregnancy board, I have my own ideas..My Edgeworthia did not make it..Pulled it up yesterday. Off to the nursery to find something to replace it with. Need to stake my thuja today (45 gallon 17' tall, would you stake it?? I had a tree guy put that one in..Seems like it might be leaning a bit...Idk.. ) ..Just planted one of the snow fountain cherry trees I just purchased. Also planted an Ann Magnolia. Gonna try to tackle the other two cherries today/tomorrow..Will be mid 90's today though. I just might melt,lol.. A bit about me. I'll be 46 early October. been married 16 years. I have two kiddos..Boys. 28 months and 8 months old...So, busy busy is what my life is right now! |
