I know that I have to take my inhalers more often then I do, instead of when I needed to, like I did before. Have a good one. Bruce.

Well I'd say that you've got a auto reply thing going on with the site? Things are good here I guess. Getting a lot of rain lately which will help us through the summer. I seem to have problems finding my post I wrote replying in the announcement, maybe I didn't look hard enough. Trying to get an ID on a tree...

Im all gravy baby, to quote a line. I could do without it pissing down everyday & icelandic volcanoes exploding in turn delaying my ropes & riggs arriving from the UK! Still these things keep growing & we keep reducing, thinning, target pruning, re-pollarding, dismantling & felling! "If a tree falls over in the forest & no one is there to hear it; does it make a sound"? |

Did you ever consider that all that pruning and thinning and reducing is causing the trees to re-act with vigorous growth? Do you understand how roots re-act to reduction cuts? Creating a "high maintenance" tree is not cool. Jeff |

Hi, Going not to bad, still cleaning up downed trees 5 weeks after the cyclone, getting a bit monotomous. Getting a bit jacked off at the rain, been raining since xmas, ground is so wet it smells. Looking forward to some dry weather to start training the horses again.

Thanks for your input Jeff, yes Id considered it when I sat my arb exams thanks & every job I look at. It does depend on a great many factors as you a descerning arborist will appreciate; the % reduced & the species of tree & its environment & the time of year its cut, how each cut is finished referencing BS3998, the purpose the tree serves whether natural natural growth or urban environment /planted with purpose in a great range of environments such as english woodland, a town centre, over granny smith's new extension, next to a kid play area, set in australian bushland or on a beachfront for bank integrity. Also the condition of the tree & associated pests /fungus present, is it a pioneer that is now in the way of a preferered species as part of a tree plan. Not to mention the reason for the work; safety or formative pruning in national gardens, is it just for one of those customers that wants their guests to see the local abbey from the east wing or a reactive school board where parents have mumbled about a big Poplar & I have not even begun to ponder the economic status: was it a recession last year with little fruision of arbor works or has some pikey 'topped' or 'lopped' & now as we tree surgeons pervey an area predicting years of growth to come & how our work on that single day affects the landscape & possible longevity of the lifeform we climb & prospectivly 'cut'...... bugger Im late & duty calls -handweeding cobblers pegs for a neighbour. I get your point though Jeff. Regards Jimmy |

Hi Ekka and gang, Yeah I'm good down here in Victoria. Been working as a sparky for a mining company. The reasons for me searching for a site like this is two fold. First of all I worked for a powerline company and did a 'short course' in how to cut trees. Two short to be taught anything but long enough to get one into trouble. The boss does the course to pass all the work care requirements. But after cutting with the 'pros' in our company became comfortable enough to do small removals with them. So I'm interested to learn and read more about the art form of looking after trees. The second half of my interest is buying a cheaper saw from the US. I'm keen to get a sweet 361 to cut firewood for my old man as he can't cut it for himself. Could probably afford a 390 or something but if I can get a 361 from Therrin or one of the sites friends in the US then that would be purfect. Any advice on doing the above would be greatly appreciated. Luckydave. |

I'm really happy to find a real tree group with real fair dinkum information available for a beginner in growing trees for timber. (I already know a bit about a few tropical fruit trees) Considering the amount of rain we've had since moving to the wet tropics of Queensland just before Christmas (several metres so far) and winds of around 150kph(cyclone Ului) that destroyed several large trees I'm going real well. How are things in your neck of the woods?

| By the sounds of things, there is enough to kids, and grand kids, to have two teams, to play base ball, at a family gathering. Bruce

Wet the babies head? 2-up in the carpark? Cross Pacific translation needed... I am only recently informed about ANZAC day. I thought Anzac was just a cookie at the bakery (and the biscuites that the women in Oz and NZ sent to troops overseas).

| lol! good morning WT. Wet the babies head is when someone has a baby and everyone goes to the pub to shout the new Dad who ends up totally off his face! There will be a baby shower for the new Mum at someone's house when she comes home from hospital, and everyone will bring a present for the Mum and/or the baby. 2-up is a game the blokes play on anzac day (and some women) and you have 2 coins and a spinner, the spinner goes in the middle and everyone bets whether he will toss 2 heads or 2 tails. If he tosses one of each they all yell out he one'd them, so he tosses again. They draw a circle and the coins are not allowed to go outside the circle. The yell out stuff like $50 on a head and some other guy will say he will cover that and so it begins, goes for hours. They change spinners regular like. Fortunes are won and lost. Mostly lost from I can ever figure out!! |

Its evening here, ma'ym. ![]() Sounds confusing. But you see, now I need even more translation. Off his face? Women have baby showers here in the states before the baby is born. Last edited by windthrown; 28th April 2010 at 06:08 PM. |

You have to have the baby shower after the baby comes home so everyone can admire it and cuddles all round for Mum and baby. That's how we do it around here anyway. ![]() Off his face - like drunk as a skunk and needs to be looked after by everyone else! ![]() I know he always needs looking after as his mates always say 'she'll be right mate' when the poor sod is throwing up in the carpark. ![]() Evening there? gosh almighty! you americans need to get with the programme hahaha! it's 11.17am here. |

Gday Ekka-up Brisbane-way. OK. just posted some stuff about forest hazards most people arent aware of-on legs. makes it more exciting though. The weather has ben magnificent down here but soon we will be stoking up the heating. I have alot of major windrows with trees in them that are perplexing sometimes. Im thinking about posting some pictures, for comments. How about massive dead straight trees pushed over by the planters that lie on their sides for 20 years and dont even lose their bark? This is 1.5m rainfall country too. Snow in winter. It'd have to be category A wood? Might get CSIRO to check out some samples. |

Guess it took me a while to interact in the very cool "tree world" fourms. I was just curious if anyone could give me a ballpark rate of workers comp rates for a new tree care contractor here in California.

That is funny. For a second I really thought this thread was started just for me. Then I realized I'm not that special. It's going good though! |
