Hi Ekka. It is very cold and lots of snow here. I was wondering if you or anyone else reading these post's would know how I could go about obtaining a few acorns from Robin Hood's tree, the "Major Oak" located near Edwinstowe in Sherwood forest? |

Hey all haven't been doing any tree work lately because we were pounded with snow here for the last two weeks. Snow depth anywhere from 1' to 1.5'.. Starting to really look forward to spring. Anyway my son had a few days off from school and we decided to pack up and head into the woods and camp out for a few days. 18 degs at night with mostly sun during the day. Here's a few pic's of the trip, with our trusted guide Jazz. Stay safe ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by Jeff Darby; 19th February 2010 at 12:10 PM. Reason: typo/ embedded pictures |

I'm a novice computer operator. Thank you for your welcome message. I registered to treeworld because I am trying to understand the balance between authorities, conservation and ethics/human rights. I look forward to posting some specific questions and images (if I can!!) So far I am very impressed with this site. May your dams be full forever. Endangered. |

Nice work Ekka. Have been told your computer skills are quite good. Nice little bit of programing to freak people out a bit. Melbourne is now dry after some rain early in Feb and always busy doing tree work in Melbourne. |

| LOL, it's good to be different. I like that add on, Be careful coz it's used in a few places. ![]() I just saw rat's camping pictures .... trying to stop ya beers from freezing is half the battle! ![]() Bugger that, I reckong 15C is about as low as one should go. Winter here is perfect, 15C overnight and 24C days, humidity 55%.... bloody perfect. Summer sucks, and with the recent rain it's a flamin sauna.

Thanks for the interest Ekka, Bloody Wet actually. We had that 350mm of rain overnight 2 weeks ago. The neighbors dam overflowed for 30 metres across over the top of it making a hell of a roar, glad it goes down a gully and through the bottom corner of our property. Not the place to put a driveway though. Washed the driveway down onto the road again, took 5 hours to put it all back using my backhoe and one son. Needed the exercise though so can`t complain many others had damage we were lucky to avoid that. Simmogra |

How did you know I would be here and take on that name????????? If it was for me it took over two years for me to get here. I have read bits and pieces on this site in the past that I have googled. No it couldn't be me I have used this name on Arborsite.com but I joined there in April 2009 over a year after this thread was started. Well Eric please explain. I started to read all the posts but it didn't seem to end 57 pages. Now did you expect me or did I pinch somebody elses name? Did I complain about something that was written here? You did ask a few pages in if I like the way things were going (or run) here.

Ok so you can control the dates. Had me wondering for a while. The ref to 2009 with a date of 2008 had me a bit confused. This year I had one boy finish secondary school and the youngest start primary school the other doing year 9. Quite a spread like having 3 dads for the little one. |

Thought I'd update this from last summer. Due to last summer's unending rain: Quote:
Quote:
This month, I had a chance to try to buy the house across the road from my boathouse. Not as nice as our home, lot is nowhere near as nice as our well drained mountain view hilltop, with gardens and hardwoods. But, it is right across the road from the boathouse, walk out the door and you can hit the lake with a tossed rock. Be nice for the summer months to go swimming or boating or just drinking on the dock, maybe playing some guitar. Have a signed contract to purchase with the owner, but the bank (his) has to OK the loss on the short sale. Wait and see at this point. My wife doesn't want to move from this house, I'd like her to try it for a couple years and see if we like it better. I planted lettuce a few days ago, it's been really warm. Now, it's snowing hard, the ground has turned white, supposed to go down to 4 degrees F (-16 Centigrade) in a few days. My bank just called as I was writing this, loan is ready to go, just come in and sign. Here are some loons at the new dock, tire is for a bumper. ![]() Here are some sailboats in the unending rain at the new dock, some of the old brown dock is on the left side. The solar panel keeps up the battery in the centerboarder. Runs an automatic bailer and electric trolling motor. The yellow boat is self bailing, 4 stroke gas motor, full lead weighted keel. The mast is down because it's ready to road travel to another lake. I blocked the license number in the photo. ![]() Tree rat, nice winter camping!

Well our dams are all full around here, overflowing. We had a bumper wet summer .... and thank goodness they're keeping water restrictions on so people dont waste water watering lawns etc. Wivenhoe our biggest dam is like 96% full, you can see the various dams here. Latest dam levels | Seqwater Days are getting shorter, the weather is slowly cooling, hard to see the effects of autumn as most things are evergreen here. Do have the odd Liquid Amber with some colour.

Our dam is the fullest it's ever been as well, we've had so much rain. My husband floated his boat in it over Christmas as he needed to do welding and repairs on his trailer. I've never seen snow. ![]() |

Ha Ha, Big brother ..sorry sister is watching you! I joined the site as it seemed to have a very good knowledge base in regard to aborists etc. Good website as well. I look after the OHS side of stuff for a small company and thought I could get help on some issues here. Having looked at the NSW COP for Tree amenities ( not really helpfull) and the VIC CLimbing Guidlines draft (much better) Istill can't get an idea of a aerial rescue plan format. We have su contracted a small job removing trees at a school and the company looked blank when I asked them if they had such a plan.. I have since given them the flick as they also did not have any SWMS, maintenence records, proof of qualifications etc. Sooo I'm putting together our own SWMS and as part of that want to put a recue plan document into place (we are sending some guys to TAFE to start the tree climbing certification process for ourselves). As always not having any knowledge of tree rescue, I used to climb (10 yrs past) and cave so I am guessing its all pretty similiar to cave and cliff rescue principals of which I had basic knowledge, I was wondering if a forum member could point me in the right direction of how to set out a plan or even an example I can plaguerise ( Don't ask don't get) regards Dave |
