Went out to do a quote in Mojave today, and afterwards the guy invited me out to the local airport to see his plane. T'was a Piper, but I forgot the specific one, high wing though. Beauty... he kept her in great condition. Offered to take me up in it later on.

While we were there his buddy stopped in and had us come over to his hanger. The guy has a Mig 19 from Poland... fully rebuilt, fully operational. Thing was friggin awesome! He said it's about 1.28 miles to the gallon, lol, burns 385 gallons an hour. Hot damn! I could never afford to keep it in the air, that's for sure.

Gonna end up doing the fellow's tree's on tues, and we're going flying later in the week.

Last thing I was up in was a Grumman Cheetah, low wing, top end rebuilt for more HP... fun little plane.

About 6 years ago I was running around the country side keeping myself busy and low and behold I stumbled across a MIG at Goulburn airport! I do have pictures...or I did..But the likely hood of finding them is slim, but if I do I will post for you all to have peak.It still had the red star on it as well.

You and me about the same age. Back in early 70's hot bike was 650 bonneville, (I had a modded one), 750 four Honda, then along came the Kawa Mach III (bike you mentioned I'm thinking) and it was top dog for a while.

I've never grown up. I now ride a 1050 3cyl Triumph Speed Triple w 131 rr wheel hp stock. Hit a deer last year at 55 mph w out touching the brakes. Was able to stay up but bike took a lot of damage. Old guys can still have fun too.

Ekka, the guy who's taking me flying has the Piper... it's his buddy Dean who's got the MIG. (and it's still got the red star too)

Flying is flying though. (easy to say when you *can't* fly the Mig...)

The Mig has hydraulic air brakes on either side of the fuselage towards the rear. That's gotta be something, punch those babys and dip the front end.... helluva way to slow yourself down.

Ugh, I gotta feed the horses and get to bed, picking up my 2 groundies in the morning for a job.

I've got some time in those, nice plane. The smooth ride is due to a smallish wing and resulting high wing loading.

The Fowler flaps on Cessnas have a similar "Barn Door" effect when fully extended. I did quite a bit of banner towing and this means landing trailing 300' of rope. The technique on shorter strips is to drop it in (clearing the fence with the rope!).

A high approach, then after going to full flaps (maximum extension) then mashing the rudder to set the airplane sideways into the relative wind, called a "slip" it dramatically increases drag as you present the entire side of the airplane into the wind.

The nose pitches down sharply as you blank out the horizontal stabilizer in the burble of air created from the flaps. This is placarded (a warning plate riveted to the "dashboard") against, even in the few aerobatic Cessnas. But it causes a vertical drop, and a very nose down attitude.

Impressive for passengers, who think you have lost control and are about to crash. Flairing out at the end makes the landing more like a modern parachute landing, useful and fun for short fields and long ropes.

John Denver might advise you not to build and fly your own plane but his plane stuck in the ground like a f cking dart. (With him in it)

Its still just a thought in my head,if i do it it'll be done over the course of a few years and i'll have an airline mechanic inspect before i go up.

This took me some time to figure out what this was about. Family is as follows: (Wife) Maureen, Katie 7, Jake 6, Luke 3, and Molly 2. We have 10 yr old Great Dane, 4 year old Australian Shepherd and 3 year old German Shepherd. Dogs keep the bear away when the kids are outside playing. It has been a dry april here. Forest fire danger level was at high this past week. My allergies are killing me this time of the year, but all are healthy so it is foolish to complain about some sneezing. I just ordered a Dolmar 7900 and my dealer said it will be here in a week. This thread took some time to go through, but snce we have no TV, this site keeps my interest. Stay safe!

The horse didn't do it,i was taking the divider panel out of the trailer and when it went to fall i tried to catch it,there by dislocating and stretching the muscle, still hurts but not as bad as putting it back into place. No climbing[or work for that matter]tommorow.Suppose to rain anyway.

We're gonna go out and look for a new cat today.

Our old cat died a few weeks ago, had bowel cancer, we had her put down and she was a beautiful cat, 17 years old she was.

Sorry to hear about that too Eric. We lost a cat last year, he was around 13 years old. He had diabetes and we treated it for a few years but it finally got him.

I had a kitten for a couple months and then it decided to take off on it's own. Haven't seen it since. It'd be nice to have another though. Maybe I'll have to find one sometime soon.

I used to have one that waited till I was asleep and then crawled up next to or on top of me. I'd roll over and it'd fall off and get back on.
Loved jumping in and out of paper bags too.... good event to watch when yer having a bad day.
Her name was Appolyon.
