Thanks Sean for the link on posting pictures. I'm on a Mac, so I wasn't able to follow the steps listed. Let me know if the Octopus Tree in Cape Meares shows up. It may be an attachment, not embedded. Couldn't figure that out yet. Last edited by Eric Frei; 22nd April 2008 at 10:24 PM. Reason: embedded pic |

I am fine, thank you. Here in Norway we have spring, the snow ist almost gone. Though, in the mountains there is a lot left. Concerning my woodwork, I am just now cutting logs on my Logosol mill. I own a small wood, an I have cut down some trees during the winter. I have also bought some trees from neighbours, maple, oak, ashwood. Quite big trees, about 90 cm diameter. At least that is quite big around here. I am a woodworking teacher, so I work with wood almost every day. Greetings to all from Norway. LeifR. |

If you want to go skiing up there in Sask. then go ahead. We'd go skiing down here too, but it's so hard to get the boat up onto the ski lift...! Yep, the temp here in Nashville is midddle 70's farenheit and it's dry, dry, dry. Summer is on the way in the U.S. south and I am more then ready for it. |

A sure sign of Spring is when I get the Antique Yamaha SR500 out of Winter storage and take it for a spin: ![]() ![]() I've been getting a lot of clean up work done with my new Stihl, but the only thing I've climbed is my roof to fix some Winter storm damaged shingles. Aerial |

I had one just like that, I sold it to a collector. Now I know you are suffering from late-middle-age-crazy. All you need to do now is stop bathing and grow a beard! If the wife finds ALL your new tree climbing stuff, she will get the house, Porche, and everything else. You WILL be left with all the tree gear and the worst bike Yamaha ever made. The valve train in mine made enough noise to wake the dead. Even after it was rebuilt, I was ashamed to be seen on it. |

The Laurel Mountains and Fallingwater - ADVrider But I will admit that she wants me to get "A Bad Ass Harley" as she puts it, but I am resisting. The SR500 is, as you mentioned, a collectors item and I drove 1200 miles and paid about $1000 more for mine than it cost brand new. When the stator failed I drove another 1200 miles to get another one as a parts bike, and this Sunday, if the price holds on eBay, I'll be picking up a third one. Could have bought that Harley I guess, but I just like the Thumper aspect of the thing. Aerial

I foget what all they did to the valve train, but it was all new. It was quieter for about 200 miles and then back to the racket. The funny thing was it never missed a beat. I agree with Ekka, why would you want to mess with trees. I had to laugh when you showed your 50th birthday present, I am NOT looking forward to my next birthday cause it is the 50th. The best present I can imagine getting, is to be left ALONE! OR 2 twenty-five year olds. ![]() So for your next big-un what are you gettin'? A trip to the Alps might appropriate so you can use the ice axes, that the Missus doesn't know about! |

Why mess with trees? Cause I had more excitement than I've had in years in my first (ill advised) experience. I sold that airplane after three years of having a blast with it. made money on it too. Once you are 60 every birthday is a big one. As to what I'll get, whatever suits my fancy. Aerial

Hey look its a thumper!!!! I rode 2 of those one year for a couple months each. Both were borrowed from the gal I bought my Yamaha Vision from. One was pretty stock but had a nice super trapp pipe with no baffles. We ended up putting some back in later on, but ya get out on the freeway and open her up and it was pretty loud. The other was nicer. Yamaha 1978 SR500. Nice growl for a 500 single. Had a yoshimura exhaust. fender eliminator, metzeler tires, bit lower, race bars, racing seat, custom gas tank, small signals, handgrip mirrors... some custom engine work. As I recall, part of the forward frame was actually an engine oil reservoir. Kind of acted as an air-cooled setup. Thought it was niffty. The stock one was a bit rascally to kick-over sometimes. Fun Bike!!! Nice to see one again. Had more power than my xz550, which was actually, TD, probably the worst built. =P Shaft drive v-twin, but the electrical system was crap. For a while I was goin through a starter a month, a battery a month, or TCI. Damn thing got to be too expensive to keep goin. They only made it for 2 years anyway. One of the first water-cooled bikes Yamaha put out. ('82) Comfy ride. |

See, the thing is the SR500 can blow the wheels off most "Bad Ass Harleys" to about 90 mph. And on any road that has curves in it my little Yammy can run away and hide from the best of them. It's a real shocker to blow by a group of Harley riders and become a vanishing dot before them. Especially sweet if one of them tries to keep up. Full up it weighs a 375 lbs. And the only thing that drags at maximum bank angle is the side of my boot. It was derived from the TT500 dirt bike, of which there were thousands sold. In fact I had the TT500 in my wild youth, so going back to this bike was in fact part of my "late middle age crazy", but I still bathe and shave regularly. Stay low on the nitrogen and as you prob know, you need to educate yourself on proper dose and timing and even the possible lack of need for fertilizing. I wouldn t think of using equipment that ever had any herbicides in it or mtls not compatible w trees. Just a few tips off top of head. You may want to start a thread. Good subj this time of year. Nice bike Aerial, I had a Suzuki T500 Titan 73 I believe a few years ago. 2 cyl and it was nicknamed Suzuki screamer (2 cycle) and it flew (and screamed) Also few years ago I had a thumper in a Kawa klr 650 1996. What a nice ride.
