Hey Ekka - I got a little misty reading all the replies to this kind of foggy, unspecific thread you started. Hearing all the mates talking about their families, and luck, and habits and vices, good and bad. Hey it's life - don't sugar coat it, the more real you dare get the more it touches me, ya know? Ekka, I have a little girl, Faye. Just turned 4 last week. A fireball she is, all red-headed and blue eyes and red tempered. I love her so. Sometimes I catch myself getting short tempered with her, and then I realize there's an angle to it I didn't even know - she's so complex. Then I'm down on myself and I apologize to her and it's all about "Faye, I didn't mean to jump down your throat about that - thanks for teaching me I don't know everything." But of course, it's just my conditioning for the other 90% of the time when she's blatantly defying me whilst glaring straight into my eyes. God that girl has my heart. Ekka, I like Stoli or Ketel One with a hint of Ocean Spray cranberry, a splash of lemon water, and some ice, in a tall glass so it lasts a long time. I make 'em strong, but not as strong as I used to. Also love Guinness, Bud and Bud light, Harp, Heineken and Yeungling lager. Sam Adams too when I'm in the mood for somthing different. Lotsa times I'll do the vodka drink without the vodka - if you do the ratio of cran to lemon just right it tastes like lemonade. Don't drink nearly as hard as I did just a few years back. Need to stay awake and pursue my dreams when the rest of them are sleeping - I'm 45 now. If I can't do something extraordinary in the next few years, when am I ever gonna? Nice thread - it's a sweet thing when fathers talk about their children (Excuse me if there are mother's in here too.) Quote:

sorry mate, must think im a right rude ba$tard! i've just moved down to sydney and have only been online a handfull of times and overlooked the thread! the weather was horrendous. capped off the year with a good couple of weeks of primo work, with the promise of more, then went on the chrissy break(which was supposed to be 2 weeks) and came back to work in the middle of jan! didnt my bank balance hurt! the rain didnt stop and i was crawling up the walls! it got so bad that we ended up working in a fare amount of ordinary weather. did a african tulip (spathodea campanulata) removal in the rain. quite difficult and the rain made it more interesting. that was fun..... but im pretty sure, dont hold me to this but we got 320 something mm in jan. a joke really. anyhow its over now. so yeah anyway i havent had time to read the entire thread but i did notice that you were interested in my taste in alcohol. haha. i like 42 below vodka and a nice cab sav red or a montheiths pilsner beer, when i have the money, otherwise its whatevers in the depots fridge! otherwise things with me are fine. as i said i just relocated to syd. got a job with syd arbor trees. good company run by a craig young, exceptional arborist, and things are well. how bout yourself? business good? sorry again for not replying earlier too! |

Hi, yeh evreythings goin good. The weather here is a bit chilly but ya soon get used to that. Plenty of work on this island, but too many of them there cowboys tryin to do stuff they cant. Machines are too easy for anyone to get hold of, its like giving a tenager a naked model, they think they know what to do but when it comes down to it he makes a mess everywhere and the client is most dismayed. |

Hi Eric Things are going okay here except yesterday I couldn't get the Stihl going. Something to do this week I guess. I have a lot of dead Scotch pines to cut down before they fall on some of the small trees. I haven't been able to work much in my bush this winter because the snow is just too deep. I seem to spend every Saturday cleaning the snow fron my driveways. I am running out of places to put it in my house driveway. As for my favourite drink I would have to say Vernors gingerale. Wimpy eh! I drink the odd beer in the real hot weather, Dutch Amstel is great. By the way I love that truck of Treevet's. Cheers, Barry |

Yeah, Newguy I like mostly any old trucks, especially military. I bet the body is good on your F350 seeing as it is from Florida. Around here they use so much road salt that everything just rusts away. We have had so much snow this winter that a lot of municipalities are running out of salt. It would be nice to have a rust free old truck. I have a 1972 Chev. C10 that I bought new and even the roof is rusting out on it. Barry |

I live about a 40 minute ride from Peterborough. It is much shorter as the crow flies but Rice Lake is in the way for driving. I go to the Peterborough Pete's hockey games regularly. Bridge North is a real hopping spot in the summer with loads of cottagers and tourists. I particularly like the crane on your truck. Something like that would be useful around my place. Barry |

Hi Ekka I don't often get on to this site, only because i'm either reading, writing or renovating, however I sure enjoy the site, when I do. It was only by coincidence that I happened by this thread (after spotting my name). Oddly enough, I have been on the site a couple of times since this was posted, yet missed it each time. Still have to learn how to navigate my way round this place. |

Busy all the time. Most time working, some time chasing work and trying to find the good set-ups for start-up businesses like mine to utilize. Been learning lots from reading and really like the video section. Interested to hear how many palms you all deal with "down under" (if I can use such an expression). I did a bit of palm cutting in desert springs in Death Valley National Park, in California. They'd invade springs or were planted by homesteaders. When we (a conservation crew of 10) worked in there killing them, the water in the spring noticeable rose each day until we were working in water deeper than our boots. I'd heard where the other crews had been face cutting and drilling to the center (don't know if there's a proper name for the center near the base that needs to be zapped in order to really kill the things). The drill hole was the conduit for herbicide to go where it needed. They said that after the crew worked in the wash/ drainage, that the stream flowed another 1/4 mile before drying up. We had to cut those gigantic grasses and remove them from the wetland so that they didn't all rot quickly and disturb the pH and whatnot of the wetland. Heavy. I was interested to learn that palms lose all of their integrity once they're dead. We don't get palm up here in the great Pacific Northwest. Just assorted big trees. Thanks to everyone for their input to help everyone else out with knowledge, insights, opinions, etc. |

| Really, good on you, I send many north side ones to you too coz crossing town is getting BAD these days and will only get worse as Hale street bridge gets built. The Gateway is a carpark, motorway a carpark, Centenary Highway a carpark and that's at 6.00am right thru to 10am then it all starts again at 2.30pm The city is full, go home Mexicans!

I totally agree about the traffic situation It took me over 1.5 hours the other day to get from Rochedale to Nudgee and that was on the highway I tend to use my GPS and try and stick to the back streets now.
