Cool Work Radius?

How far away does a job have to be before you consider it TOO FAR?

Do you just stick to a certain territory or mileage radius and then add an extra amount if the job is over that limit?

I will go up to 20 miles inclusive in my daily rate, after that I'll charge 10 cents a mile, both ways.
It gets expensive otherwise!

I cover about 40 miles, then charge mileage.I also add the fuel bill into my quotes, like most companies do.

There's alot of vacation cabins around here and sometimes they are out in the boonies.
I've tried to keep most of my jobs within an hours drive, so about 60 miles.

I'll go any distance if the moneys there.

Depends on the job .... it's the free quote that's the killer.

I prefer to work within 30-45 min drive from base.
Beyond that, only if they qualify as a good leads or are a refferal.

Whether they are 5 mins or 50mins travel i take that into account on the time/price quoted.

There are also some areas that arent really any further but if they are low income areas they generally also see trees as low value & premium service as low value then we dont go. The quotes are a waste of time.

We do sometimes go further for wealthier existing clients's holiday homes down the peninsula as we already have a relationship from working at their primary residence and are a sure thing for their other work.

Well my radius is as far as people want me to go.Some of the property jobs are an hour an a half.I travel 2 an a half to one.My radius would be three hours.
The free quote thing well?.
I charge $1.00 a km for travel with the truck an all. The other contracters are $1.50 a km,and I think the Excavator is $4.95 a km.

Work radius is pretty flexible for me. As long as I can figure in mileage and turn a profit at the end of the day, it's fair game.

My typical radius starts 10 miles away from where I live and goes to about 60 miles out from there. But I've done jobs up to 5 hrs driving time away and had it work out okay.

I've even taken jobs in adjoining states... or while traveling if I have my gear with me.

The only problem is... finding groundies if you need them, figuring out where to dump the stuff, work liscence zoning and all that stuff.
