Talking women drivers

Well ....

Source: Men scared by women's driving - Car and Car-Buying News - What Car?
Quote:
'Most men feel they are better drivers than the women in their lives.
'They believe they concentrate a lot better, read road situations more quickly and clearly, and have better reactions.

'One in five even went as far as to say they were never able to relax when their other half is driving.'
Here's a neat video, I like the guy at 1.47 and right at the end.

That one was good - and so true.

However, some women are good drivers, and often not so impatient or aggressive as men. I know I like my wife to drive when we're going somewhere, she complains less, and criticizes her driving style less. Less stressful for me.

Then again, there is a breed of young women with a really bad attitude who road rage at anything - and of course everything that goes wrong is a mans fault according to them!

Seriously though. I've taught a stack of international students and migrants how to drive (letting them drive on their foreign licenses without lessons is just too bloody scary,) but I won't teach women how to drive.

There are some good female drivers around, but most of the women you see on the road don't even seem aware of where the cars are around them! I'm sick of women in little hatch-backs driving in my blind spot or slowing down to change lanes (my driving students get a slap across the back of the head if they try any of that kind of driving!)

I call it "oblivious to the planet"

My kids are getting older now, 7 and 10 and I point out all the fools on the road, their mistakes, their inconsiderate actions and where possible we try to guess the gender and race behind the wheel. I get it right most of the time.

To expand on oblivious .... in that video the woman could not park the car but could not give a rats ass about all the other she was pissing off. Now a bloke would have took off after a few failed attempts seeing he was creating a bottleneck, but a woman .... sees it as more attention and possibly will do her lippy and brush her hair.

Lately I have noticed the "block you in effect" going on by younger woman drivers. I pull a trailer and about 1500kg of load. Front to back it's fairly long, maybe 12m so it is not easy to change lanes etc. Woman will speed up etc and drive right in my hip pocket to prevent a lane change by me. The worst thing I can do is put my indicator on, it becomes an early warning system for the biarches who then accelerate to block me in .... so now I start the maneuver then indicate LOL

Considering the race of driver... The thing that seems to set many Asian drivers apart (but by no means all) is the inconsiderate way in which they drive. I guess it's part of coming from over-populated countries.

One Chinese-Malaysian mate had a a 'warning - asian driver' bumper sticker made up for his car just to poke fun at himself. Maybe others could take a leaf from his book...

When it comes to those women in small cars who want to 'have their rights' or ' prove their equality' or whatever by blocking me in, I have one phrase that driving a larger vehicle entitles me to use occasionally.

"I'M COMING ANYWAY!"

Any way long story short they both have been cleared of spinal injury however both have in old school words whiplash, and they were both allowed to go home, so i'm looking after both of them today..so glad they both didnt become cripples.

Unbelievable ! It was pretty stressful for around 8 hrs until we found out their spines were not broken as they had on all the gear...getting hit up with morphine for the pain etc...etc..

just letting you know whats happening in my life.

Ordinarily We would ban anyone posting personal messages on this forum, however Eric and I discussed it and thought it to be appropriate in light of the discussion and really there is nothing personal about this except this is 12 hours of my life where I nearly had two crippled members in my family because of a women driver ! and no I do not tar all women drivers with the same brush...just most..

Ends up it was a young woman driver who had a male passenger.

Errr, that's a car stopped in front at a red light love, "what car" she says?

The worst accident I've been involved in was a head on , it was a dirt road, I was passenger in the back with my then six week old daughter, it was about 10.30 at night. It was at Upper Five Day Creek, closest police Station miles away. A four wheel drive came around a blind corner in the middle of the road, there was enough time to say s... There was no indication of lights as the road was on the ridge of a fairly steep hill so there was nothing for them to reflect off.

The only thing that saved us from serious injury was we were in a solid station wagon, her car capsule, also the fact that as it was on a gradient, we were going quite slow, climbing up the hill in the wet. My worst memory was watching our grocery shopping, tin cans etc flying past my daughter capsule on impact, that was the time before they brought in the reg. to have a partition at the rear of a station wagon.

None of us are hurt, so we get out of the car, thinking it might blow, the young ringer that was driving the four wheel drive got out and collapsed in front of the car, obviously really drunk. He then get's on the C.B. and calls the station manager. The manager turns up with a bunch of his mates, our car is a write off, the bull bar is wrapped around the side of the truck of the ringers.

So the manager tells us that if we do not play along with him (there was no accident), they will leave us on the side of the road to walk 25 kilometers to the nearest phone, or they will give us a lift home. At this time it's three in the morning, so fearing a fight, it's freezing, my daughter is six weeks old, we go for the lift home. I didn't live with a land line then. Next day, return with friends to find the car bulldozed into the creek down the slope. No evidence.

So is it just women drivers?

glad your loved ones were all right JayD.

Julie

Not a pleasant experience. Really glad your folks are OK JayD and hope there are no lasting issues.

I've seriously got no tolerance for drivers, regardless of gender, who don't maintain a good distance between the back of my car and themselves. I've driven (in the right hand lane) down the freeway at 40kph until someone gets the idea to BACK OFF and have no qualms at all about it. If someone can't even look after the space directly in front of their car, then they shouldn't be on the road at all.

Not much you can do if you're stuck at the lights with an incompetent driver behind you though.

Idiots who don't understand what the 'blind' part of 'blind spot' 'blind corner' and 'blind drunk' means are also on my hitlist.

I agree Dov, people whom tailgate are my pet hate. But don't you worry about road rage. It's pretty bad here in N.SW, road rage.

The freeway from Sydney going north at peak hour has so many pile ups from sometimes two, three cars tailgating each other going at about 130kmsH. I just can't see how they don't get it, talk about stupid.

And it's not gender related, it's both.

I've noticed the closer you get into Sydney the crazier the driving seems to get. It's extra crazy considering how high the fines are up there.

I studied in Sydney for a while. Can't stand it. A lot of people seem to like it, but I reckon they just haven't discovered Melbourne yet!

On that note though I find Melbourne city a bit much for me. I'm from the hills and took a long time to get used to even the outer suburbs...

Truckies cause a lot of accidents, and they're just about always men.

That was horrid Jayd..I hope your family is not too shaken up.

Truckies are on the road for a huge amount of time though, so the number of road hours needs to be taken into account. I wonder what the stats are? I'll ask my bro who drives b-doubles interstate.

I know him, and I don't think he'll have a long life.
