So glad to hear that your family are going to be OK, shame about the car, it can be replaced, but you can't replace your family.

That must have been a shocker of a drive though, when you were going to the accident, not knowing how they were.

Wish people would take more care on the road, police going to charge that driver?............, hope they take their license for some time.

The costs of repairing and panel beating is so bad these days a lot gets written off.

Most shops just want to buy new panels, fit and spray them.

New panels are like $800

Spray a panel is like $300

The plastic bits, light surrounds etc are a rip off too.

You can sometimes buy the wreck back JayD, then fix or try to flog off parts. Just a thought.

What sort of car was it and what nick/mileage on it?

Regarding some comments about young male drivers. Mens testosterone levels, their thirst for high risk activities, their competitive nature, their anti authoritarian attitude fuels the fast car obsession, burnouts etc.

In my day we went to the race track, was $1 a drag race, you could race coppers too. It was a blast, I had my share of hotted up cars but am still alive today. A bloke doing burnouts .... although hooning, is major low risk, big deal other than the marks and smoke. Probably a dead town with nothing better to do. I used to be able to sit in one spot smoking it up and not move an inch, was pretty impressive doing that parallel parked between 2 cars in Hindley street on a Saturday night and not get nicked by cops. There was a trick though, it was a 351V8 GT auto and I lightly held the brake whilst you punched it hard so it spun not drove, was a beast that thing!

Outside of rural towns is often makeshift drag strips, often drags take place at night where car headlights tip off anyone coming. You'll see the start and finish lines across a road in the middle of nowhere.

There's rules out somewhere that car audios are not to be heard more than 25m away somewhere too, it's all changing.

It was a Hyundia Sante Fe the condition would be described as " as new" and around 100.000 ks typical womens car..lol. my wife loved it and would have kept it for at least another couple of years before we upgraded again, but it wasn't to be.

Well, small but not really dead! there's always something going on and everyone knows everyone else..and their business haha!

There are few places the guys go and be hoons in their cars around here, that bloke was just showing off, he did have it under control and everyone just laughed but still, things can go wrong when you're in the main street. Plus he stinked up the street with the rubber smell.

Asian drivers, elderly drivers, women drivers. In that order.

ALL hell shall breaketh loose if its an elderly female asian driver. Better to find a safe cave to park in and wait for a few hours.

Oooh Oooh, but officer <drama mama> it was all so scary and he might have lost control and he might have won the lotto and got the hell out of this backwater but no officer, he just had to mark his territory like some big ole smelly tomcat.

Ha! well for a start smarty pants Ewik , people want to come here and work in the pits, not leave.

And it didn't bother me some clown doing burnouts in the main street, I've seen it before, but if he had of lost it, he could have hit the shops on one side or the gardens on the nature strip down the middle then the other shops on the other side.

He could have hurt himself or someone else. Loads of bush around here, he could have gone out bush..but, as you said, he is just a dumbass tomcat and had an urge to mark his territory. A puffy chested showoff.

Same boy got busted doing 180k on the Golden Hwy, come to think of it he might not even have his license back yet. lol!

He is a lovely bloke though, and I'd hate to see him hurt, harmless just dumb.

I've lived here my whole life, and have never see any females do burnouts in the bush or the main street..that tells me something.

Yep. It takes a bit of skill to do decent burnouts.

In my neighborhood there are drift circles in the intersections of the streets... apparently they're a little more technical than just burnouts around here. They like going in circles! How fun!~

There's some streetbike chick around here who makes a fancy out of popping wheelies and going flying past the cops. They haven't caught her yet, apparently, but she apparently almost caught the broadside of a semi-truck the other day. mmmm.....crazzzy biker chicks

You really have to drive here on Saturday to see some good drivers.

Lots of those circles around on the Southwest suberbs. Lots of wreaths stuck on power poles as well.

Then there is another type, just plain stupid.

LOL, you ever been in a car where the driver bought a cheap navman with crap maps and options? Jeez, it's frustrating and takes the longest route.

Last time I was in Sydney I swore that next time I'd buy a Sydways. The bloody navi kept telling us to turn right onto the bridge going over the motorway we were on and stuff like that. Na. Give me a decent paper map any day.

Have a peek at these stats from the site below and then go spank yourselves:

http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/roadsafety...ident-data.pdf

3.4 MOTOR VEHICLE CONTROLLERS INVOLVED IN FATAL CRASHES
3.4.1 Number of motor vehicle controllers involved in fatal crashes for 12 months ending March 2011, sex of controller

Sex
Male - 436
Female - 102
Unknown -5

Furthermore:

The biggest killer of young drivers is speeding and around 80 per cent of those killed are male.

Tells a different story doesn't it, and if you have a look at more stats you're gonna find the same thing.

My thoughts:

If you're one of the chaps spouting this woman hating crap (I say crap because the stats tell a different story):

1.You've been shafted(or not) by some chick and you blame the whole bloody gender

2. You're old, crusty outdated and hopefully won't be around too much longer anyway

3. You're one of the little guys mentioned above who thinks you're a shit hot driver and everyone else on the road sucks (you're also probably the most likely to cut off a truck driver if you don't have a truck licence yourself)

4. You're a poor kid whose views on women drivers have been tarred by someone from categories 1 or 2 (if you're a girl you'll probably have some serious confidence issues and end up a shit driver cause you were told you were gonna suck from the get go and if you're a boy you're much more likely to end up like sad old #1 for obvious reasons)

Sounds a bit like you're the one that got shafted.

Statistics, ha. According to some today Justin Bieber is one of the most influential people in the world.

I do not see many women drivers winning F1 or V8 Supercar events.

Also I notice the incidence of tail end crashes on freeways as I travel on freeways nearly everyday. Noting that observation recently a client who works in insurance told me that their stats tell them females are more likely to hit the car in front than males.

She told me that studies show men are more focused on what is ahead and woman use more peripheral vision looking around, likely a trait from men being hunters who tracked and focused their targets and anything in the peripheral vision was a distraction.

Also what statistics do not tell you is how many men vs women are on the road at any given time. It is not unusual for a couple driving say Brisbane to Sydney where the male does 80% of the driving. You cannot count the number of licensed drivers by gender you have to count who is actually behind the wheel.

Young male drivers are aggressive, full of testosterone and parading their pimped car, I would agree with that. Back in my day we had many a venue to race, these days there's less. Fact is it is a gender specific condition that is scientifically proven, I'm willing to accept that but do not confuse fast and furious as bad driving, just good driving in the wrong place.

I raced my 351 up and down the Gorge road and around chain of ponds in Adelaide often, past kangaroo creek dam laying it out sideways smoking it up (called drifting these days) .... at the crack of dawn on Sunday mornings, no bugger around and I wasn't the only one. Bad driving? Not in my opinion, skillful more like it.

Ironically these days you pay to do that in an official course, including skid pans (wet roads) etc so people understand how to handle a car and what to expect. Things like laying off the brake so you can steer, applying power to drive the car through a bend whilst correcting the steering.

Also I note that there are those who cause accidents but seldom get a bump out of them.

hahahahah!

When driving, I have observed that the majority of bad habits like failing to indicate, lane skimming, merging at inappropriate speeds, COMPLETE AND UTTER FAILURE TO PARK A CAR etc belong to women; especially in Balmain where every 5'2 mother drives a gigantor SUV-type thing with minimal visibility. A chick in such a car once backed into the headlight of another car while 'parking' on a single-lane street, then stormed up to my window and said, "look what you made me do. You gave me no room to pass and forced me into a tiny space. This is YOUR fault - you're a young driver - a bad driver!!! You should be paying for this!!!!"

Excuse me?

HOWEVER when I'm riding, the three closest calls when cars have tried to merge on top of me have been middle-aged men in expensive cars. I have never nearly been hit by a woman. I for one would definitely take a chick taking three hours to park over being smooshed on the road by some Jaguar wanker!
