Default weekend of avoiding trees instead

Hey gang,

Had a great weekend in the Strathbogie Forest. With the whole idea being to keep away from the trees for a change.

This is the one time i dont want to be like shigo and "touch trees"

Yeah i drive. this event covered 80km of competitive stages. we did it in 59.50 minutes. Winner did 55.40 so we were about 3 seconds per km off winning pace, not bad for 1st event in 2 years though. 16th out of a 60 car field.

Considering these are windy forest roads and our average speeds are similar to youd sit on the freeway it is pretty quick.

Sweet as Trev, I'm guessing with a time like that you're a pretty good drifter? Is that a Mitsubishi Magna Sports edition?

Cool Trev, I thought youd be the pilot..LOL..Rally driving is about speed and 4wd is about doing it without leaving a trace..The one's that abide by 4wd ethics.Ive taken 4hrs to cover about 8k's at the back of lithgow,in the garden of stones national park,If I can find some picture I will post them for you's all to have a look...we near on climb mountains sometime..like your sport, and mine it leaves you feeling exhilerated.

I just noticed the little scoop is that for better ventlation?
and the black pole at the back of the car I think it an aerial in the middle pic but its not in the other two what gives??

The car is a Mitsubishi Lancer GSR, turbo 4wd.

The drifters are only just catching on to what rallying has been all about for the last 50 years!

A couple of the top rally guys have turned up at those drift competitions and cleaned up.

Sounds like you got the right idea, i hate those 4wd guys that find a puddle n go back and forward thru it all day trying to get bogged and destroy the roads in our forests. Post some pics JayD!

The scoop is a roof vent. Gives some fresh air as all air con etc is removed. It also helps reduce dust into the car from underneath through all the seals etc by sort of pressurising the cabin.

I think the pole is a signpost

Great pics.

Closest I got to that scene is Colin McRae rally on Xbox.

You go hard but dont stack it Trev, all that panel damage costs bucks ya know.

Oh, what's the longevity of the drive train like on rally cars?

They reckon wear & tear from 1 rally is equivalent to 50,000kms in a road car.
Eg set of tyres, brake pads, full service-all fluids/oils/filters.
After several rallies can mean suspension rebuild, pull down g/box & diff etc.

This is what happened a couple of years ago:

WHOOPS!

Hey dont underestimate the xbox/playstation!

They're great to hone your attention span, focus & pacenoting on.
Even multi Aust Rally Champ, Cody Crocker plays on em for hours on end.
But still would get beaten by a 9 yo kid on the game!

Yep, no insurance for motorsport unfortunately. You can have cover for in storage, theft, while transporting etc but NO ONE will cover during competition.

I'm lucky i have a rally mate who's a great panel beater that lives in the bush and his house is surrounded by massive trees.

Usually one declines, dies or needs to go coz he needs firewood at about the same rate i manage to prang the car

They just got satelite internet the other week free from the Gov. and the installer said it'd work better without that tree in the line of sight!

Too bloody right, and that trees worth 2 prangs minimum right?

Hey, convert that to wood chip or split fire wood and it might be 3 or 4 prangs.

Does the road get wetted, or do you race on it as it is?

No, not in rallies. This isnt at a track, then they usually would. We call that an Autocross, and they are usually about a 1.5km track that you do a few laps of. Rallys use forest roads, closed off to the public for the day.

This one used two 8km stages, 1 up & 1 down the hill, repeated twice in each direction.

The downhill stuff tests your brakes and your balls!

So this event was quite short & compact.

Often we would cover about 120km of competitive stages without repeating any of the same roads.
