UK tree surgeon busted £565 for carrying tree waste

In this news article a guy was busted for not having a permit to carry tree waste.

Anyone care to explain, so does this "waste" include woodchip?

A QUARRY Bank tree surgeon is counting the cost of flouting waste regulations after picking up a hefty court bill.

Stephen John Ball, aged 50, of Wavell Road, Quarry Bank, was ordered to pay a total of £565 after he was caught carrying waste as part of his tree surgery business.

Ball had been warned by Dudley Council and the Environment Agency he needed a licence to carry waste as part of his trade.

He admitted failing to register himself to carry waste at Dudley magistrates court on March 10, and was fined £300, ordered to pay costs of £250 and £15 victim surcharge.

Councillor Karen Shakespeare, cabinet member for environment and culture, said: “This sends out a clear message, if you have not got the correct licence to carry waste you will be caught and prosecuted.

“I would urge anyone carrying waste as part of their business to make sure they have the necessary paperwork.”

Why is it, the blokes who do it right thing get busted for stupid bloody things like this, this waste is not toxic..

unfortunatly thats the way it is over here, if you dont have a waste carriers license you will get prosecuted. No onder people fly tip.

Apparently so. If you have your own company you and everyobody who transports green waste needs a license

Basically if you carry waste of any type you are required to get a permit to carry and tip the waste, that fine low they can go into thousands dependant on the waste. plus ive heard that you are supposed to buy a permit if you dont carry waste labour gov't screwing the public again

How about this then, it's not waste ... it's a by product that you sell.

I bet the landscape yard doesn't need that permit thent o cart woodchip from there place to yours!?

About 20 yeears ago, we in NSW had to get a permit from the METROPOLITAN WASTSE DISPOSAL AUTHORITY (MWDA) NSW, now WRAPS (waste recycling and processing service) to cart waste for hire or reward.
The cost for a permit was about $150 from memory.
It was dropped after much protest.
Tip fees her are about to go up a further 30% on 1st July. This will make Large wood waste, over 150 mm dia or over 1 metre long, and demolition waste about $220 per tonne!
It encourages shonky dumping!

There's a slight difference...but they basically mean the same thing...metrically speaking..I work in imperial and metric as I dont want to let go.
