I have a minor case of left ventricular hypertrophy, it has started to improve now that my runaway train is back on track.

How did you first learn you had that problem? How low was your EF.
I'll bet there are many folks who are walking around with uncontrolled high blood pressure who are in various stages of LVH that aren't aware of it.
When that condition starts causing noticeable problems, it's often beyond minor.
Can't overlook kidney and eye damage either!
The real problem with hypertension is folks not taking it seriously when they are feeling ok.
I would think ignoring it because you can't afford to see a doctor or the medications would not be much different than continuing to climb with a questionable rope because you can't afford a new one.

I have been treated for hypertension for 12 years, it took awhile to find meds that worked and that I could live with. I'd have to check with my Dr. to find out about my EF, I see her every other month for blood tests, colesterol and all that. Having a Lady Dr makes that yearly prostate examine abit easier to take.

I wonder with all the advice given if Newguy18 is suffering from more anxiety now?
His chest pains should be something to be concerned about aside from his HBP.
Unless ones blood pressure is so high to cause headaches or nose bleeds, one generally doesn't feel it. Shouldn't have heart pains anyway!
Might even make one feel more energetic!
Lowering blood pressure with those meds is what will slow one down!
I've heard some folks quit taking their meds because they feel better without them!
Guess that would be ok if they were only interested in a short life span, huh?

Pigdog...

It might also be okay to skip your meds if you climbed on Lowe's rope

I mean, why waste meds in that case? I know *I* would have HBP if that's what I used...

Diet and lifestyle aren't the only things that can cause HBP or heart pains!
There are several potential organic causes that must be ruled out at the beginning of treatment.
I would think heart pain should be your biggest concern. That would likely be caused by some kind of blockage rather than just interior artery pressure. That pain should be taken as a wake up call for you while you still are able to wake up!
Think of those trips to the doctor the same as changing the oil in your truck! Sure you can probably skip an oil change or two and even get by with it but sooner or later that engine will let you down and will become very expensive to repair if it can be repaired.

There are plenty of good opinions in this thread as to your future health if you keep living as if nothing will happen. Florida has free clinics and many hospitals operate clinics for indigent care. You could look to see if there's a free place for you to get a check up. You're not looking to have open heart surgery at a clinic but just an exam and maybe a prescription to treat your condition. Some drug companies also offer low cost medications for those who can't pay the price that they charge at the drug store. This is America, help is out there you just have to find it.

Denial is the first step towards an early death.

*Therrin starts a bet on Bill not getting medical help even if it's free*

If he were healthy he'd have nothing to gripe about, and then we wouldn't pity him. That just wouldnt be any good.
